The Baltic 17U baseball team split a doubleheader against the Sioux Falls Chargers in Sioux Falls on Monday, July 13th.
Sioux Falls 14, Baltic 4
In the first game, Sioux Falls scored seven times in the bottom of the first and five more in the second for an early 12-0 lead. Each team scored a run in the third inning. Baltic put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth to make the score 13-4. Sioux Falls ended the game on the 10-run rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Gavin Skotvold had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs. Bodhi Giedd added a double and single with an RBI. Cale Roach also had two hits. Zach Helgeson had a hit with an RBI. Trey Van Wassenhove had a single.
Baltic 9, Sioux Falls 4
Baltic bounced back with a win in the second game. They scored a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Sioux Falls put three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning to go in front 3-1. The lead did not last long. Baltic rallied for six runs in the top of the second to go back in front 7-3. Sioux Falls got one run back in the bottom of the inning. Baltic added two more in the top of the third for a 9-4 score. The score remained 9-4 for the rest of the game.
Skotvold finished with three hits and two RBIs. Isaac Oakley had two hits with four RBIs. Jackson Goehring also had two hits. Paxton Fuhrer and Brechen Fredrick both had a single and an RBI. Elias Oakley added a hit.
