The Baltic Bulldogs softball team ended their regular season by splitting a double-header with McCook Central/Montrose on Saturday, May 18th.
Baltic 8, McCook Central/Montrose 5
The Bulldogs broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and then held off the Cougars for a win in the first game. Harper Kortemeyer had an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Baltic led 1-0 after a scoreless second inning. The Cougars scored four runs in the top of the third for a 4-1 lead. Baltic added four runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead 5-4. McCook Central/Montrose tied the game in the top of the fourth. Caitlyn Pickett had a go-ahead RBI double. Alexis Kehn scored on a wild pitch, and Katelyn Moser adde an RBI single.
Pickett had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Moser had two hits and an RBI. Kortemeyer and Baylee Breece each had a single and RBI. Ryah Peters and Kehn both had one hit. Peters pitched five innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on 12 hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
McCook Central/Montrose 8, Baltic 4
A big top of the fifth inning propelled the Fighting Cougars to a 8-4 lead in the second game. McCook Central scored a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Kehn scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to tie the game 1-1. Peters had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. Pickett had an RBI single, and Kehn scored on a steal of home putting the Bulldogs ahead 4-1. McCook Central had a seven-run top of the fifth to get the win.
Pickett and Peters both had a single and an RBI. Kortemeyer finished with two hits. Breece added a double. Moser and Kehn each had a single. Charlee Blommer pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed eight runs, three earned, on six hits and four walks with 10 strikeouts. Peters recorded the final out.
