Baltic Baseball Falls One Game Short of State Tournament

The Baltic Bulldog baseball team was one win away from qualifying for the state tournament, but fell in the final super regional game in Tea on Tuesday, May 23rd.  Baltic entered the Region 3B tournament as the #6 seed.  They won their opening round game against West Central, but lost to Tea in the state qualifying game.

Baltic 5, West Central 2

West Central got the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.  Baltic then took the lead in the top of the second and scored the next four runs of the game.  Braxton Allen brought home two runs in the top of the second with a single.  Beau Keith had an RBI single in the top of the third, and Allen added another RBI single in the top of the fourth for a 4-1 lead.  West Central cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Tayden Hansen gave Baltic an insurance run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth.

Allen had three hits and three RBIs in the game.  Keith finished with three hits as well along with one RBI.  Hansen had two singles and an RBI.  Matt Muston finished with two hits.  Jose Valadez and Tate Feucht both had one hit each.  Riley Schultz pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts.  Hansen pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Tea 13, Baltic 3

Tea took an early lead and then built on that lead for a 13-3 win over Baltic.  Three runs scored in the bottom of the first for an early 3-0 lead for Tea. Muston had an RBI single in the top of the second.  R. Schultz scored on a steal of home in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2.  Tea, however, scored six runs in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 9-2.  R. Schultz had an RBI single in the top of the fifth, but Tea scored four more times in the bottom of the inning.

R. Schultz had two hits and an RBI.  Muston finished with a single and an RBI.  Valadez had two hits.  Allen had a triple.  Hansen pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts.  Allen pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing three earned runs on two hits and two walks.  Feucht pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing four runs, three earned, on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
