Alcester-Hudson Boys Back in Win Column, Hold off Westerners

The Alcester-Hudson Cub boys basketball team got back into the win column by holding off the Akron-Westfield Westerners on Thursday, January 16th.  The Cubs built a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter and held for a 66-58 win.

Alcester-Hudson took a 14-11 lead into the start of the second quarter.  The Westerners opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run for an 18-14 lead with 6:45 to play in the half.  The Cubs responded with a 9-3 run over the next three and half minutes for a 23-21 lead.  Alcester-Hudson finished the first half with a 29-25 advantage.

The Cubs were able to slowly extend their lead to 10 points, 47-37, by the end of the third quarter.  They had a game-high lead of 12 points, 49-37, with 7:30 to play in the game.  Akron-Westfield went on a run and pulled within a point, 51-50, with 4:45 to go.  Alcester-Hudson was able to score the next four points to extend the lead to 55-50 with 3:00 remaining.  The Cubs were able to maintain that lead by making enough of their free throws in the closing minutes.

Ethan Bovill finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Jose Topete-Lopez had 17 points and eight rebounds.  Tommy Walth added nine points and six rebounds.  Evan Haak had eight points and four rebounds.  Evan Brown ended with seven points and three rebounds.  Jacob Cole had five points and seven rebounds.
