The Alcester-Hudson Cubs traveled to Howard to open the football season on Friday, August 23rd. The Tigers used a big second half to help them to a 45-8 win.
Neither team would find the endzone in the opening quarter. The Tigers scored two times in the second quarter. The first came on a 30-yard pass. The second score was on an eight-yard run. Both extra point attempts failed. Howard took a 12-0 lead into halftime.
The Cubs scored first in the third quarter. Tommy Walth found the endzone on a quarter back sneak from one-yard away. Walth then connected with Ethan Bovill on the two-point conversion to make the score 12-8. Howard would answer later in the third quarter on a nine-yard touchdown run. The Tigers led 18-8 going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter is where the game got out of hand for the Cubs. The Tigers extended their lead to 25-8 after a 15-yard touchdown run and made extra point. On the ensuing kickoff, the Cubs fumbled the ball, and Howard recovered and scored on the play to make the score 32-8. The Tigers would also get a 30-yard touchdown run and 48-yard touchdown run later in the final quarter.
Alcester-Hudson had 189 yards of total offense, 83 rushing yards and 106 passing yards. Howard finished with 463 yards of total offense, 386 rushing yards and 77 passing yards. Jose Topete-Lopez had nine carries for 39 yards. Walth finished with 12 runs for 23 yards and a touchdown. Walth was also 9-14 passing for 106 yards. Bovill had five catches for 68 yards. Evan Brown had two catches for 26 yards. Bovill finished with eight tackles on the night. Jacob Cole and Jackson Meyer both had five tackles each. Topete-Lopez, Walth, Daryn Dykstra, and Brown all had four tackles each.
