Cubs Football Team Cruises Past Corsica-Stickney

An opening kickoff return for a touchdown set the tone for the Alcester-Hudson Cubs in their first home game of the season on Friday, August 25th.  The Cubs cruised past the Corsica-Stickney Jaguars 38-8 to move to 2-0 on the season.

Even Brown took the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown to start the game and give the Cubs an 8-0 lead after a two-point conversion.  At the 8:01 mark of the first quarter, Mateo Kleinhans connected with Darin Dykstra on a 21-yard touchdown pass.  Another two-point conversion pushed the lead to 16-0.  Tommy Walth returned an interception 59 yards for a touchdown about three and a half minutes later, and the Cubs pushed their lead to 24-0.

Corsica-Stickney got on the board with 10:50 to go in the second quarter on a 48-yard touchdown pass.  A made two-point conversion made the score 24-8.  The score remained 24-8 at halftime.  The Cubs extended their lead with 5:01 to go in the third quarter.  Kleinhans had a 45-yard touchdown run pushing the lead to 32-8.  He scored again on a three-yard run with 10:54 left in the game for a 38-8 final score.

Kleinhans had 13 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns.  Jose Topete-Lopez added eight carries for 67 yards.  Brown finished with eight carries for 35 yards.  Kleinhans was 3-8 passing for 21 yards with a touchdown and an interception.  Dykstra had a touchdown catch for 21 yards.  Topete-Lopzez finished with six tackles in the game.  Walth had five tackles and an interception.  Brown finished with five tackles as well.  Dykstra added four tackles.  William Hallaway had three tackles and an interception.
