Cubs Finish Regular Season 7-1

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs football team finished their regular season at home on Friday, October 14th against the Irene-Wakonda Eagles.  After an early 8-8 tie in the first quarter, the Cubs pulled away for a 36-14 victory.

Owen Bovill scored the first touchdown with 9:39 on the clock on a 37-yard run.  Evan Brown scored the two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.  The Eagles tied the game on a 23-yard pass and two-point conversion with 3:50 to play in the quarter.  The Cubs got one more score in the opening quarter.  Jose Topete-Lopez had a one-yard touchdown run, and Mateo Kleinhans scored the two-point conversion with 1:55 to play.  Neither team scored the rest of the half, and the Cubs led 16-8 at halftime.

Alcester-Hudson started to pull away in the third quarter.  Brown had a 65-yard touchdown run with 11:44 in the third quarter for a 22-8 lead.  Brown added another score on a 15-yard run with 4:25 to play in the third quarter.  Kleinhans scored the two-point conversion for a 30-8 lead.

The Eagles scored right at the end of the third quarter on a 30-yard run, but Alcester-Hudson led 30-14 heading the fourth quarter.  Kleinhans had a 13-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Van Egdom with 6:57 left in the game for the final score.

The Cubs tallied 467 yards of offense, 403 rushing yards and 64 passing yards.  Irene-Wakonda had 262 yards of offense, 129 rushing yards and 133 passing yards.

Kleinhans was 3-7 passing for 64 yards and a touchdown.  Van Egdom had two catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.  Brown had a catch for five yards.  Brown also had 11 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns.  Kleinhans had six carries for 76 yards.  Topete-Lopez had 10 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown. Bovill finished with one carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.

Brown also led the team with 9.5 tackles.  Aden Moller had 7.5 tackles.  Kleinhans and Jensen Christensen each had 6.5 tackles.  William Hallaway finished with five tackles.

Alcester-Hudson finished the regular season 7-1 and as the #8 seed in the 9A playoffs.  The Cubs will host the Canistota Hawks on Thursday, October 20th.
