Alcester-Hudson Suffers Home Loss to Eagles

For the second straight night, the Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team suffered a home loss.  The Irene-Wakonda Eagles won a five-set match on Tuesday, October 11th.

The Cubs had the early advantage in the opening set and worked their way to a 13-7 lead.  That lead slowly grew to 19-12.  The Eagles weren’t able to cut into the lead much, and the Cubs won the first set 25-18.  The two teams went back and forth early in the second set and were tied several times.  After a 13-13 tie, the Eagles went on a 3-0 run.  Alcester-Hudson responded with a 5-0 run for an 18-16 lead.  Irene-Wakonda, however, finished the set in a 9-4 advantage for the 25-22 win.

The Eagles used that momentum in the start of the third set and took an early 6-1 lead.  The Cubs were able to fight through the slow start and went on a 12-4 run to take a 13-10 lead.  Irene-Wakonda eventually tied the score late at 21-21.  Each team had small 2-0 spurts, and the score was again tied 23-23.  The Eagles scored the final two points for the 25-23 win.  The first half of the fourth set was again close, and the Cubs had a small 13-12 lead.  They then went a 6-0 run to push the lead to 19-12.  That rally was enough for them to keep the lead and end the fourth set with a 25-18 win.

The fifth set was back and forth with the two teams trading points all the way to a 12-12 tie.  Neither team had a lead of more than one point in that stretch.  The Eagles, however, got the last run of the match scoring the final three points for the 15-12 win.

Ella Serck finished with 35 set assists, 17 digs, and four ace serves.  Hannah Ahart had 15 digs and an ace.  Elly Doering added 14 kills, six digs, and three blocks.  Emma Moller tallied 10 kills, six digs and two ace serves.  Carly Patrick finished with nine kills.  Alexis Gray had seven kills and seven digs.  Devin Hongslo had five kills, six digs, and three ace serves.
