Cubs Fall to Scotland in Five-Set Match

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team traveled to Scotland to play the Highlanders on Tuesday, August 30th.

After a 4-4 tie in the first set, Scotland went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-4 lead, and they never lost that lead.  The Highlanders were able to maintain at least a two-to-three point lead for most of the set before winning 25-21.  The Cubs grabbed an early 6-1 lead to start the second set.  Scotland got the set tied 9-9, and the two teams went back-and-forth with the score still being tied 14-14.  The Cubs went on a 10-1 run at that point to take control of the set, and Alcester-Hudson tied the match with a 25-22 win.

The Cubs broke and 11-11 tie with a 4-0 run for a 15-11 lead.  They were able to push the lead to 18-13 late.  Alcester-Hudson closed out the third set with a 25-19 lead for a 2-1 lead.  The Cubs had an eight-point lead late in the fourth set, 20-12, and looked like they were going to take the match.  Scotland, however, went on an 8-0 run to tie the score 20-20 and used the momentum for a 25-22 come-from-behind win in the fourth set.

That momentum from the finish of the fourth set helped Scotland to an 8-4 lead.  The Cubs pulled within two points, 10-8, but Scotland held on for a 15-10 set and match win.

Emma Moller had 13 kills and 11 digs.  Elly Doering also had 13 kills along with four blocks.  Devin Honglso had nine kills.  Alexis Gray had seven kills, 23 digs, and three blocks.  Carly Patrick added six kills.  Ella Serck finished with 35 set assists, 21 digs, and four ace serves.  Jenna Manning also had 21 digs with two ace serves.
