Cubs Drop Road Match in Season Opener

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs traveled to Menno to play the Wolves to start the 2022 volleyball season on Tuesday, August 23rd.  The Wolves took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-11, 25-20, and 25-20.

Menno built an early 6-1 lead in the first set.  The Cubs were able to pull within a couple of points, but the Wolves got on another run and extended their lead to 19-10 before taking the set 25-11.

After Menno had a 9-5 lead early in the second set, the Cubs pulled within two points, 9-7.  The Wolves then scored five in a row to push the lead to 14-7.  Alcester-Hudson slowly pulled within three points, 21-18, but Menno held off the rally and took the win 25-20.

The Wolves started the third set on a 6-1 run, but the Cubs answered with five straight to tie the score 6-6.  Menno responded with six straight of their own for a 12-6 lead.  The Cubs got within two points again, 13-11, but Menno once again stopped the rally and held off the Cubs for the win.

Carly Patrick and Emma Moller each had seven kills.  Alexis Gray and Elly Doering both finished with four kills each.  Hannah Ahart finished with 13 set assists, two blocks and eight digs.  Ella Serck added six set assists and four digs.  Jenna Manning had a team-high 18 digs, and Doering finished with 12.

Alcester-Hudson will have their first home match of the season against the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Thursday, August 25th.
