June 28, 2022 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Hartford/Humboldt legion baseball team lost all three of their games at their legion baseball tournament Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th.  Hartford/Humboldt lost games to Salem, Dakota Valley and Tabor.

Salem 5, Hartford/Humboldt 2

Salem got a come-from-behind win by scoring five times in the fifth inning for a 5-2 win on Friday.  Loren Jacobson had an RBI single in the bottom of the first for Hartford/Humboldt.    They added another run in the bottom of the fourth.  Logan Maras had an RBI single, and Hartford/Humboldt led 2-0 after four innings of play.  Salem then got their five runs in the fifth.

Jacobson and Maras both had a hit and an RBI.   Deuce Sherrard, Jack Linneman, and Braden Herr all had singles as well.  Owen Heath pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on eight hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.  Gavin Koch pitched 2 1/3 innings of no hit baseball with three strikeouts.

Dakota Valley 11, Hartford/Humboldt 2

Dakota Valley never trailed in an 11-2 win on Saturday.  They scored two runs right away in the top of the first.  Bennett Sebert cut the lead in half with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.  Dakota Valley added two more runs in the top of the fourth.

The lead was again cut in half, 4-2, after Koch had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the fifth.  Dakota Valley, however, got a run in the top of the sixth and then added six more in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Sebert had a home run and an RBI.  Jacobson had two hits, including a triple.  Koch added an RBI.  Andrew Zimmer pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, two earned, on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts.  Adam Parsons pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed six runs, two earned, on six hits with two strikeouts.

Tabor 10, Hartford/Humboldt 0

Hartford/Humboldt couldn’t get the offense rolling against Tabor as they were held to just two hits.  Tabor scored a run in the first, two in the second, six in the fourth, and one more in the fifth before the game ended on the 10-run rule after five innings.

Koch had a double, and Sharrard had a single for the only two hits in the game.  Koch pitched four innings and allowed nine runs, only one earned, on five hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Derek Renken pitched one inning and allowed an earned run on a hit with two strikeouts.
