The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team won their fourth straight game against the Centerville Tornadoes by a score of 62-35 on Friday, February 1st at Dell Rapids St Mary High School. The win gave the Cardinals their longest win streak of the season and was also their fifth win in their last six games.
St Mary led from start to finish in the game. The Cardinals started the game on a 10-0 run before Centerville got their first field goal. St Mary closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run and led 19-2 after the first quarter. The second quarter scoring gap was much closer between the two teams. St Mary did outscore the Tornadoes, but it was by just two points at 14-12. The Cardinals led 33-14 at halftime.
The Cardinals continued to extend their lead in the third quarter. St Mary pushed the lead to 49-21 heading into the fourth quarter. Centerville did outscore St Mary 14-13 in the final quarter.
Maddie Schwebach led St Mary with 15 points and seven rebounds. Tana Harrington had 13 points and seven rebounds. Elle Heinitz added 11 points, three rebounds, and four steals.
St Mary (8-8) will travel to Gayville to play the Gayville-Volin Raiders on Monday, February 4th in a girls and boys double-header. Big Sioux Media will have a link to the Gayville-Volin web stream of the games.
