A strong fourth quarter helped the Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team to a 61-43 win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Friday, February 1st at Tri-Valley High School.

After Tri-Valley hit a game-opening three-point shot, the Quarriers went on an 8-0 run to take an 8-3 lead early in the game.  The Mustangs closed the gap to 8-7 before Dell Rapids went on a 9-0 run to take a 17-7 lead with 1:30 to play in the quarter.  The Quarriers ended the first quarter leading 17-10.  Logan Ellingson hit a three-point shot from deep at the left wing with 7:04 to play in the second quarter to give Dell Rapids a 20-12 lead.  The Quarriers were only able to score four more points the remainder of the quarter, and Tri-Valley pulled within two points by halftime at 24-22.

The Mustangs continued the momentum and tied the game at 24-24 on a Will Kulzer layup with 6:50 to play in third quarter.  Tri-Valley took the lead at 31-29 with 4:30 to go in the quarter on a Nick Hass three-point shot, which was the first lead for the Mustangs since the game-opening three-point shot.  That’s when the Quarriers took control of the game.  Dell Rapids closed the quarter on a 13-6 run to take a 42-37 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Quarriers then outscored Tri-Valley 19-6 in the final quarter for the win.

Logan Ellingson led Dell Rapids in scoring with 17 points.  Colin Rentz added 15 points.  Drew Van Regenmorter had a game-high 10 rebounds.  Logan Heim finished with nine rebounds and four assists.  Tri-Valley was led by Kulzer with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Dell Rapid (8-4) will host Mt Vernon/Plankinton in a girls and boys double-header on Tuesday, February 5th.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
