In a close game for most of the game between the Dell Rapids Quarriers and Vermillion Tanagers, the Tanagers used a big fourth quarter rally to beat the Quarriers 71-64 on Thursday, January 24th at Vermillion High School. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Dell Rapids.
The first quarter was back and fourth between the two teams. They ended the quarter in an 18-18 tie. Dell Rapids was able to get some separation in the second quarter as they outscored Vermillion 20-13. The Quarriers held a 38-31 lead at halftime.
Dell Rapids was able to maintain the lead they built in the second quarter. The Tanagers were only able to cut into the lead by a point, and Dell Rapids led 50-44 heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter is where everything went right for Vermillion. The Tanagers erased the six point deficit by outscoring the Quarriers 27-14 in the final quarter for the win.
Colin Rentz led the Quarriers with 21 points. Logan Ellingson finished with 16 points. Drew Van Regenmorter added 11 rebounds and four assists in the game.
Dell Rapids (6-4) will play Sisseton in the Dax XII/NEC Classic on Saturday, January 26th. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at Madison High School. Big Sioux Media will have a link to a live stream of the game.
