The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team won on back-to-back nights and handed the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars their first loss of the season. The Quarriers came from behind and defeated the Fighting Cougars 55-46 on Friday, January 5th at Dell Rapids High School.
McCook Central/Montrose held the lead in the first three quarters of the game. The Fighting Cougars led 17-9 after the first quarter of play. Dell Rapids cut the lead to six points by halftime at 30-24. McCook Central/Montrose pushed the lead back to eight points at 40-32 after the third quarter, but the Quarriers scored 23 fourth quarter points while holding the Fighting Cougars to just six for the comeback win.
Four players finished in double figures for Dell Rapids. Arial Hoffman finished the game with 14 points, nine of those coming in the fourth quarter. Jayda Knuppe had 13 points. Emma Paul tallied 11 points, six in the fourth quarter. Aspen Hansen also finished in double figures with 10 points in the game. Sydney Stofferahn added four points, and Kaylee Hennen had three points. Morgan Koepsell led the Fighting Cougars with 13 points.
Dell Rapids (7-1) will close out their home stand on Monday, January 8th. The Quarriers will host another top Class A team and Dak-12 foe, the Lennox Orioles. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
