The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team is off to a 2-0 start to the 2017-2018 season after a 61-43 win over the Mitchell Christian Eagles in Mitchell on Tuesday, December 12th. The Cardinals lead at every quarter break in the game.
St Mary was able to build a lead in the first quarter they would not lose. The Cardinals lead 21-8 after the first quarter. They pushed that lead to 18 points by halftime at 38-20. The Eagles closed the gap to 12 points by the end of the third quarter at 49-37, but St Mary held the Eagles to just six points in the final quarter while scoring 12 for the win.
Three players finished in double figures for St Mary. Maddie Schwebach and Ella Heinitz both had 16 points each in the game. Sydney Cook added 14 points.
The Cardinals (2-0) will now face Estelline two times to close out the week. St Mary will travel to Estelline on Thursday, December 14th. They will then face each other again on Saturday, December 16th at the Entringer Classic in Colman.
