A 10-point difference in the third quarter helped the #1 team in Class B boys basketball, the Bridgewater-Emery Huskies, to a 69-54 win over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Monday, December 11th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School. The two teams traded the lead six times, but the third quarter proved to be the difference in the game.
The Huskies held a four-point lead after the first quarter at 19-15. The lead stayed at four points heading into halftime at 28-24. The Cardinals cut the lead to one at 28-27 after Connar Kangas started the third quarter with a three-point basket. After a made free throw by the Huskies, Max Herber chased down an offensive rebound and found Weston Geraets under the basket to tie the game at 29-29 with 6:38 to go in the third quarter. However, Bridgewater-Emery finished the quarter on a 20-4 run to take a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter at 49-33. The lead grew to 60-39 with 4:40 to play in the game. The Cardinals were able to end the game on a 15-9 run.
St Mary finished the game shooting 31% from the field, 25% from three-point area, and 58% from the free-throw line. The Cardinals had a total of 35 team rebounds, six team assists, four team blocks, and four team steals.
Connor Libis finished with a team-high 16 points in the game. Luke Brown had 12 points. Geraets had seven points, and Kangas added six points. Max Herber had a team-high eight rebounds. Kangas and Brown both had four rebounds each. Libis had four assists and two steals, while Herber had two blocks.
St Mary (0-2) will travel to Estelline on Friday, December 15th. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
