The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal defense was the key to their win over the Arlington Cardinals 38-19 in Arlington on Friday, February 3rd. This is the fifth win for St Mary in their last seven games.
St Mary used a strong defense in the first quarter to set the tone in the ball game. They held Arlington to just three first quarter points and held an 11-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams scored nine points in the second quarter, and St Mary maintained their eight-point lead of 20-12 at halftime. St Mary then just allowed seven total second half points while scoring 18 on their way to the victory.
Ella Heinitz led St Mary on offense with 11 points in the game. Sydney Cook and Lexi Klein both finished with nine points each.
St Mary (8-9) travels to Elkton on Friday, February 10th, to take on the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks.
