The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies took the lead in the third quarter and hung on to beat the Dell Rapids Quarriers 44-39 in the consolation round of the 2016 Girls State A Tournament in Watertown on Friday, March 11th.
The Huskies had a one-point advantage over the Quarriers at the end of the first quarter 11-10, but Dell Rapids outscored Elk Point-Jefferson 13-8 in the second quarter to take a 23-19 lead at halftime. Elk Point-Jefferson’s defense held Dell Rapids to just two third quarter points, and the Huskies led 33-25 at the end of the third quarter. Dell Rapids outscored Elk Point-Jefferson 14-11 in the final quarter, but couldn’t quite complete the comeback.
Mikaela Stofferahn finished the game with a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Emma Paul added nine points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Arial Hoffman had seven points. Lindsey Morris added four points and had seven rebounds.
Dell Rapids (14-10) will play McLaughlin for 7th/8th place at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th.
