Just 1:02 into the game, Mikaela Stofferahn was fouled and sent to the free-throw line with two shots. She made the first one, which gave her 1,000 points for her career at Dell Rapids. Stofferahn went on to make both free throws, and the Quarriers used that excitement to build a big lead they would not lose against the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers. The Quarriers went on to defeat the Chargers 53-36 in the semifinal round of the Region 3A tournament in Tea on Thursday, February 25th.
Sioux Falls Christian tied the game at 2-2 with 6:00 to go in the first quarter, but Dell Rapids went on a 10-0 run the remainder of the first quarter to take a 12-2 lead. The Chargers could not solve the Quarrier defense in the second quarter either only scoring four more points. Dell Rapids led 26-6 at halftime. The Chargers were able to get the offense going in the second half, however, they could not stop the Quarriers. Dell Rapids added to their lead in the third quarter pushing it to 43-21.
Three players scored in double figures for Dell Rapids. Emma Paul led the way with 17 points. Arial Hoffman and Kaylee Hennen both had 11 points a piece. Stofferahn finished with seven points in the game. Paige DeJong led Sioux Falls Christian with 15 points.
Dell Rapids (13-8) will play in the Region 3A championship game against Flandreau on Thursday, March 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. at Garretson. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
