The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls earned their fifth win of the season by beating the Colman/Egan Hawks 54-47 on Friday, February 13th, in Colman. St Mary jumped out to a 13-8 lead after the first quarter. However, the Cardinals only scored four points in the second quarter, and the Hawks took a 24-17 lead into halftime. The C/E Hawks extended their lead to 14 points with 5:06 to go in the third quarter. That’s when the Cardinals began their comeback. The Cardinals pulled within four points at 34-30 at the end of the third quarter. St Mary then scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to earn the come-from-behind win.
The Cardinals finished the game shooting 45% (17-38) from the field, 27% (3-11) from three-point area, and 59% (17-29) from the free-throw line. The Cardinals had 30 team rebounds, seven steals, and turned the ball over just 10 times in the game.
Ally Mullaney finished the game with 17 points to lead the Cardinals. Lindsey Wolles added 16 points, and Jackie Wolles tossed in 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Kaitlyn Vortherms pulled down six rebounds. Cassy Geraets dished out four assists.
The Cardinals improve to 5-14 on the year. St Mary travels to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Tuesday, February 17th, to take on the Raiders.
