The Elkton/Lake Benton Elks earned their 14th win of the season with a 54-30 win over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys on Thursday, February 5th, in Dell Rapids. The Elks held the Cardinals to just two points in the first quarter, and only eight points the entire first half on their way to a 29-8 halftime lead.
The Cardinals were able to get a little offense going in the third quarter, but still trailed the Elks 42-18 at the end of the third. St Mary was able to put in 12 points in the final quarter, but wasn’t enough to stop the Elks.
Noah Fiegen led the Cardinals with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Christian Schneiders finished the night with six points and 16 rebounds. The Carinals had a total of 41 rebounds, eight steals, 13 assists, and turned the ball over 20 times. St Mary shot 28% (13-46) from the field, 11% (1-9) from three-point area, and 50% (3-6) from the free-throw line.
The Cardinals look to pick up their first win of the year on Monday, February 9th, as St Mary will host Canistota in a make-up game from earlier in the year. The game will be part of a double-header and webcast on Big Sioux Media.
