Another comeback bid by the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team fell short on Monday, December 29th. The Cardinals lost to the Chester Flyers 40-37 at St Mary High School.
Chester took the lead after the first quarter 14-8. The Cardinals defense shut down the Flyers in the second quarter. St Mary outscored Chester 7-2 in the second quarter and trailed by just one point at halftime 16-15. Chester was able to extend their lead to 35-27 at the end of the third quarter. The Cardinals could not quite complete the comeback in the fourth quarter even though St Mary outscored Chester 10-5.
The Cardinals were led by Lindsey Wolles with 18 points and two steals. Ally Mullaney added 11 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
St Mary falls to 0-7 on the year. The Cardinals will travel to Marion on Friday, January 2nd.
