June 15, 2014 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

PBRLogoThe Parkston Mudcats used a big sixth inning to beat Dell Rapids PBR on Friday, June 13th, in Dell Rapids.  Parkston scored eight runs, seven of them unearned, on their way to a 12-5 win.

The Mudcats got on the board first with an RBI sacrifice fly by Trevor Freudenthal.  PBR answered to take a 2-1 lead after the first inning on a two-run home run by Weston Hansen.  Parkston regained the lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Jeff Harris to take a 3-2 lead.  The Mudcats added another run in the fourth when Tyler Nolz scored on a passed ball.  The score remained 4-2 heading into the sixth inning, and that’s when “Friday the 13th” happened for Dell Rapids.  Spencer Freudenthal started the inning with a walk.  He then stole two bases before an RBI single by T. Nolz.  Jeff Heisinger then hit into a 5-4-3 double-play started by Nate Henry.  Brady Nolz then popped up a ball in the infield that looked like it would end the inning, but Blake Harms was unable to make the catch.  Parkston then scored seven straight runs, all unearned, on six hits and a walk before PBR could get out of the inning.  PBR added a run in the seventh, and two runs in the eighth.

Drew Eldeen took the loss for PBR going five innings, giving up four runs, all earned, on eight hits.  He struck out five and walked two.  Harms pitched one inning giving up eight runs, one earned, on seven hits.  Henry finished the final three innings giving up no runs on two hits.  Trevor Kuiper picked up the win for Parkston going seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits.  He struck out six and walked one.

Hansen had two hits in the game for PBR, including the home run, and two RBI.  Henry also had two hits and an RBI.  Matt Kolbeck also picked up two hits and an RBI in the game.  Harris and T. Freudenthal each had three RBI for Parkston.
