The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday, January 26th at the Dak XII/NEC Classic in Madison. The Quarriers earned a 65-54 over the Sisseton Redmen.
The game was another back-and-forth game for the Quarriers in the middle two quarters. Dell Rapids did take the early lead in the game and led 14-8 after the first quarter. The Quarriers scored first in the second quarter and led 16-8, but Sisseton went on a 14-6 run to tie the game at 22-22 by halftime.
The two teams continued to go back and forth in the third quarter. The game was tied again at the end of the third quarter 38-38. Dell Rapids and Sisseton were tied again at 41-41 early in the fourth quarter before momentum shifted to the Quarriers. Sisseton was called for a technical foul. Dell Rapids converted both free throws and then knocked down a three point shot to give the Quarriers a five-point possession and a five-point lead. After a defensive stop, Dell Rapids got a big three-point shot from Karsen Welbig in the corner in front of the Quarrier bench to push the Dell Rapids lead to eight at 49-41. The Quarriers never trailed again on their way to the victory.
Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 56% (20-36) from the field, 25% (4-16) from three-point area, and 65% (13-20) from the free-throw line. Sisseton finished the game shooting 32% (19-58) from the field, 30% (5-17) from three-point area, and 79% (11-14) from the free-throw line. Sisseton did out rebound Dell Rapids 35-33 in the game.
Logan Ellingson, named the game’s MVP, finished with 20 points for Dell Rapids. Drew Van Regenmorter had 17 points and seven rebounds. Colin Rentz added 14 points. Coby Maeschen had a team-high eight rebounds.
Dell Rapids (7-4) will travel to Flandreau to play the Fliers on Tuesday, January 29th. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
