The Dell Rapid St Mary Cardinal girls team defeated the Colman/Egan Hawks in the consolation bracket of the DVC tournament on Thursday, January 22nd, in Colman. The Cardinals beat the C-E Hawks 55-46 for their second win of the year.
The Hawks had an early one-point lead with 6:14 to go in the first quarter, but that was the only lead of the night for Colman/Egan. St Mary held a six-point lead at 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals continued to increase the lead in the second quarter, scoring 19 points on their way to a 32-17 halftime lead. Colman/Egan was able to chip away at the lead throughout the second half, but ran out of time. The C-E Hawks outscored St Mary 14-13 in the third quarter, and 15-10 in the fourth quarter. However, that was not enough as the Cardinals hung on for the win.
St Mary had two players in double figures, led by Ally Mullaney with 16 points and nine rebounds. Lindsey Wolles finished with 14 points and two steals. Jackie Wolles and Kennedi Mullaney each had eight points apiece.
The Cardinals finished the night shooting 39% (16-41) from the field, 10% (1-10) from three-point area, and 67% (22-33) from the free-throw line. St Mary out-rebounded Colman/Egan 39-33 in the game and also force 19 C-E Hawk turnovers.
St Mary improves to 2-9 on the year. The Cardinals will play their final game of the DVC Tournament on Saturday, January 24th, against the Arlington Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. in Elkton.
