After starting the season with a couple of tough losses, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team is climbing the Region 4B standings. The Cardinals won their fourth game in a row after a 60-58 win over the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Friday, January 5th at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.
Weston Geraets set the tone early for the Cardinals with five first-quarter points along with multiple steals and blocked shots on defense. St Mary held a nine-point lead at 20-11 after the first quarter. The Dolphins battled back in the second quarter scoring 17 points and briefly took the lead. The Cardinals, however, would get it back by halftime and led 31-28 after two quarters of play. St Mary extended their lead to six points at 44-38 after the third quarter. The fourth quarter proved to be full of excitement as the Dolphins trailed the Cardinals by just two points with :45 to go at 55-53. Two made free throws late in the game by Connor Libis sealed the win for St Mary as they outlasted Deubrook for the win.
Connor Libis had his second 30-point game of the season in the win. Libis finished with 33 points in the game. Luke Brown added 13 points for the Cardinals. Deubrook was led by Jack Bandemer with 16 points.
St Mary (4-2) will travel to Parker to take on the Pheasants on Tuesday, January 9th. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
