The Tri-Valley High School club baseball team played three games in three straight days Friday, May 13th through Sunday, May 15th. Tri-Valley played Sioux Falls Christian Friday, Tea Saturday, and Flandreau/Chester Sunday winning two of those games.
Tri-Valley 6, Sioux Falls Christian 2
Tri-Valley scored six unanswered runs and led 6-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and hung on for a 6-2 win over Sioux Falls Christian on Friday, May 13th.
Connor Christensen had a two-run double in the top of the third inning giving Tri-Valley an early 2-0 lead. Christensen drove home another run with a single in the top of the fifth, and Barrett Althoff followed with an RBI double for a 4-0 lead. Everett Althoff had an RBI bunt single in the top of the sixth and later scored on a passed ball giving Tri-Valley a 6-0 lead. Sioux Falls Christian got a single run in the sixth and seventh innings.
Christensen had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs. Noah Haynes and Riley Carlson both had two doubles each. B. Althoff had a double and an RBI. E. Althoff had a hit and an RBI. Cole Focken and Lawson Loiseau each had a hit as well. Tyler Groenewold pitched all seven innings allowing two runs, both unearned, on five hits with a walk while striking out seven.
Tea Area 10, Tri-Valley 3
Tea scored eight times in the first two innings on their way to an 10-3 win over Tri-Valley on Saturday, May 14th.
Tri-Valley scored two times in the top of the first inning. Christensen reached on an error that scored Carter Sorenson and Riley Carlson. Tea’s offense responded with six runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second for an 8-2 lead. They scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Tri-Valley got back on the board with a run in the top of the sixth. Loiseau scored on a wild pitch.
Carlson, B. Althoff, and Loiseau each had a single for Tri-Valley’s three total hits. Kaden Egger pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts. Alex Wingen pitched two innings allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and three walks while striking out three.
Tri-Valley 13, Flandreau/Chester 9
Tri-Valley scored nine times in the top of the seventh inning for a 13-9 come-from-behind win over Flandreau/Chester on Sunday, May 15th.
Flandreau/Chester scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Tri-Valley took the lead in the top of the second with three runs. Christsen scored on a fielder’s choice ground ball by Haynes. Wingen had an RBI single, and Haynes scored on a passed ball. The lead was short-lived as Flandreau/Chester scored five times in the bottom of the second for a 6-3 lead. Groenewold scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth inning to pull Tri-Valley within two at 6-4. Flandreau/Chester added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 9-4 lead.
Tri-Valley’s offense took advantage of opportunities in the top of the seventh. Flandreau/Chester committed five errors and allowed three walks. Tri-Valley had three hits on top of that while scoring nine times. Sorensen had a two-run double. Christensen reached on an error that scored two more runs to cut the lead to 9-8. Haynes had an RBI single to tie the game 9-9. Wingen reached on an error that scored the go-ahead run. Loiseau drew a bases-loaded walk, and Carlson reached on an error that scored the final two runs.
Sorenson had a double and two RBIs. Haynes and Wingen both had a hit and two RBIs each. Loiseau had a single and an RBI. Carlson and Groenewold each had a single. Christensen added two RBIs as well. Carlson pitched four innings allowing nine runs, only three earned, on six hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Sorenson pitched three innings of no-hit baseball while walking two and striking out six batters.
