Vivian (Entringer) Murphy

Vivian MurphyVivian Murphy passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home and the Christian Wake Service will begin at 4:00 p.m. A Catholic Daughters Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 p.m. during visitation. On-line condolences maybe left at the Kahler Funeral Home website.

Vivian Lavonne Entringer was born on February 9, 1925 near Colman, SD, the daughter of Ray and Susie (Thill) Entringer. She grew up on a farm near Colman and attended country school. She then attended and graduated from St. Mary School in Dell Rapids. She married Leo Murphy on December 31, 1946 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home on the Murphy farm west of Dell Rapids. Leo passed away on December 28, 1981. Vivian remained on the farm for two years before moving into Dell Rapids.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society group and volunteered at Padre’s Thrift Store.

Vivian loved to follow all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and she learned to love the Irish heritage.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Maureen Entringer, her brother, Jim Entringer, and her three grandchildren, Shannon Foy, Seth Hanson and baby boy Murphy.

She is survived by her ten children, Tom (Marsha) Murphy of Sioux Falls, Kathy (Craig) Foy of Castle Rock, CO, Jerry (Barb) Murphy of Dell Rapids, Mary (Mervin) Hanson of Sioux Falls, Maureen (Dr. Larry) Rentschler of Sioux Falls, Dick (Joan) Murphy of Dell Rapids, Nancy (Brian) Davis of Dell Rapids, Tim (Emily) Murphy of Dell Rapids, Joe (Cindy) Murphy of Dell Rapids and Sharon (Mark) Kayser of Sheridan, WY; her 28 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren with one on the way; her brother, Ray Jr. (Grace) Entringer of Dell Rapids; her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her good friend, Bette Kuper, and her extended family and friends.
