Robert “Bob” P. Troff, 72, of Trent, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Avera Dougherty House in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Messiah Lutheran Church, rural Flandreau. Interement will be in the Egan Hillside Cemetery, rural Egan. Robert Pete Troff was born on September 24, 1941 at Swea City, IA the son of Pete and Ila (Beadle) Troff. He grew up on the IA family farm and attended Swea City, Ledyard & Armstrong, IA schools. He graduated from Swea City High School in 1959. After high school he attended some college at Gustavus Adolphus College, St Paul, MN, Estherville Community College and Mankato State. He worked with Ashback Construction, Co. out of St. Paul, MN and worked in Houston, TX . He married Lillian “Lolly” (Olson) Fisher on May 24, 1965 in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple made their home in Trent, SD. Bob became a Sales Rep for the Quaker Oats Co. & Cargill. Bob & Lolly’s passion for horses inspired them to build a horse barn where they trained 75-100 horses per year for ten years. Together they put on Quarter Horse and Appaloosa shows and sales. Bob was the local Trent City Marshall in the late 1960’s. In the 1970s, they purchased the first farm east of Trent with about 300 acres and raised beef and club cattle. Bob also worked off the farm with Wyland /Wyco Construction and later as Moody Country Weed Supervisor. In 2002, they retired and sold the cattle herd but remained on the farm where he continues his hobby with horses, cattle and other farming interests.
Bob was an avid reader and a strong promoter of educating youth with regards to livestock and agriculture. He was the founder of the Moody County Report Ag Theft [MCRAT] program which later was reorganized where funding went to the Flandreau and the Moody County Harvest Ag Festival Scholarship.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Ila.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Lolly of Trent, a sister, Beverly (Jerry) Schumann of Okoboji, IA, children, Todd Fisher of Trent, Robin (Fisher) (Jon)Rowe Kalamazoo, MI and Rodney Troff of Trent; his four grandchildren, Chelsea Cullen of AZ, Caitlin Cullen, AZ, Kasey Fisher, OK, & Natalie Rowe, MI; and his niece and many nephews.
