Jason Erickson

Jason M. Erickson, 48, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. Jason was born on October 3, 1964 at Pipestone, MN to Roger and Laura (Biron) Erickson. He graduated from Lennox High School in 1984 and then graduated from USD in Vermillion. Jason worked in sales at Austad’s in Sioux Falls and as a night clerk at a hotel. Jason enjoyed reading, being at the library, golfing, fishing and hunting.

Jason is survived by his mother, Laura Krull, Sioux Falls; father, Roger Erickson, Pipestone, MN; brothers, Jerod (Kerry) Erickson, Omaha, NE, Cooper (Robin) Erickson, Pipestone, MN; sister, Kaia (Greg) Staatz, Dell Rapids; one niece, Brianna Erickson; one nephew, Kian Erickson and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau with burial at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel on Monday.

Alice Anderson

Alice Anderson, 97, of Chester, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the West Baptist Cemetery, rural Chester. Alice was born on August 20, 1915, the daughter of Clyde and Faith (Gray) Alexander at Williamsburg, VA. As an infant, she moved to Sanborn, IA with her parents. At pre-school age, she moved with her family to Sioux Falls, SD. She completed the seventh grade at country school near Sioux Falls. Alice married Lester Anderson of Chester on March 4, 1937. They skipped their honeymoon and went to work building their future in farming and starting their family. The couple farmed on a farm near Chester. Lester died in 1992. Alice moved in with her son in 2006 and then moved to the assisted living center in Colton in 2009.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, John, her sister, Fern, her brothers, Vernon and Reed, her sons-in-law, Miles Hahn and Willard Hahn, two grandsons, Terry Schmidt and Adam Anderson and two granddaughters, Mary Anderson and Joanne Hahn.

Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dell Rapids.

Grateful to have shared her life are children, Deloris Rowland of Madison, Marlene (Clem) Schmidt of Madison, Darlene Hahn of Humboldt, Bill (Vi) Anderson of Chester and Carol (Ron) Arneson of Colman; her 56 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Paul Mines

Paul Allen Mines, age 45, of Janesville, WI, died Monday, October 15, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. Paul was born November 30, 1966, in Dell Rapids, SD, the son of George and Genevieve (Schreier) Mines. Paul spent many hours each week volunteering at many non-profit organizations.

Survivors include five brothers: Robert Mines of Yepachic, Mexico; Tom (Linda) Mines of Rapid City, SD; David (Peggy) Mines of Glenville, MN; Mark Mines of Coon Rapids, MN; Brian (Deb) Mines of Mountain Green, UT; two sisters: Mary Jane Nelson of The Villages, FL; Nancy (Don) Hansen of Egan, SD; sister-in-law, Jean Mines of Casa Grande, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by a brother, Roger Mines; and nephews, Jeffrey Nelson and Zachary Mines.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman, SD, with Fr. John Helmueller presiding. Assisting the family is Brian Hansen Funeral Service, Janesville. Online condolences may be made at www.hansenfh.com

Jane (Halme) Larson

Jane (Halme) Larson, 34, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Methodist Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday with the family present at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Jane Anne Halme was born on February 15, 1978, the daughter of Norman and Anne (Gollesch) Halme at Dear Born, MI. At the age of nine, she moved with her family to Dell Rapids. She attended school in Dell Rapids graduating from Dell Rapids High School in 1996. She attended USD for Social Work. While in college she worked with the developmental handicapped. She then follow her passion and started working in daycare. Jane married Darin Larson on July 28, 2007 in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. After their son was born, Jane started her own in home daycare so she could be a stay at home mother and daycare provider.

The church and her faith were very important to Jane. She loved her children and her daycare children. She was an avid Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan. She lived life. She woke up every morning happy. She was always happy and always chose to be better rather than bitter. Even in death she continued to give by being a donor.

Jane was preceded in death by her grandparents, three miscarriages, an aunt and a cousin.

Those left to cherish her life are her husband, Darin of Sioux Falls; her son, Noah and her daughter, Isabella, both at home; her mother, Anne Halme of Dell Rapids; her father, Norman Halme of ND; her in-laws, Harlan (Sharon) Smith of Harrold; her brother, Paul (Lori) Halme and their children, Chase and Paige of Fort Worth, TX; her grandmother-in-law, Helen Durfey of Highmore, SD; her brothers-in-law, Galin (Sara) Larson of Huron and Kevin Larson of Rapid City; her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many other friends and relatives.

Audrey Huwe

Audrey Lorraine (Haugen) Hudelson Cates Rehbock Huwe was born on Nov 19, 1924 in Dell Rapids, SD to Olaf and Inez (Nessan) Haugen and passed away on Oct 13, 2012 in Rapid City, SD. Audrey was 87 years old at the time of her death.

Audrey is predeceased by all four husbands, parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister.

She was married 4 times and had 9 children – Sherry Christian (Concord, CA), Georgia Hustrulid (Sioux Falls, SD), Retha Stewart (deceased), Linda Hudelson (Rapid City, SD), Lori Hieskell (Canton, SD), Stana Grant (Pueblo, CO), Buela Tjeerdsma (Springfield, SD), Merle Savage (Rochester, MN), Kevin Aaker (Luverne, MN). Audrey is predeceased by all four husbands, parents, one daughter, one brother and one sister. She is survived by 6 nephews, 29 grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Memorial and burial services will be held at a later date at the East Nidaros Cemetery in Baltic, SD.

Audrey Munk

Audrey M Munk, 85 of Dell Rapids died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center.

Memorial services will begin at 2:00 PM Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Visitation with the family present will be from 3-5:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Audrey was born on September 29, 1927 at Rock Rapids, Iowa to parents George and Anna Van Briesen. She moved to South Dakota at the age of seven and attended rural grade school near Chester. She moved with her family to Dell Rapids in 1943 and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1945.

She married Milton Munk on November 17, 1945 at Camp Robinson, Little Rock, Arkansas. While Milton was in the service she worked for K. T. Faris Jewelry Store. When Milton was discharged from the Army they lived in Dell Rapids. In 1948 they moved to a farm northeast of Dell Rapids. In 1969, Milton purchased his trucking firm and they moved back to Dell Rapids. Audrey and Milton would have celebrated their 67th anniversary on November 17th.

Audrey was an active member of the Dell Rapids Lutheran Church, ALCW, circle, the quilters, and the Dell Rapids American Legion Auxiliary. She co-chaired the Banquet with Elaine Jorgenson, ejoyed sewing, quilting at church, Tuesday cards, and coffee with friends, and spending time with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Milton enjoyed their winters in San Benito, Texas.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Milton Munk, Dell Rapids; children, Randy (Karen) Munk, Hermosa; Bobby Munk; Candy Munk, California; Sherry Munk, Omaha, Nebraska; and Peggy Munk, Flandreau; thirteen grandchildren; eight, great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Vera Munk and Gail Munk Bares, both of Dell Rapids and a special friend, Ardith Forbes, Dell Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Rick, four brothers, and four sisters.

Ruby Beto

Ruby Beto, age 97, of Madison, died Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Eagan, MN.

Ruby Violet Volby was born July 24, 1915 near Rutland, to Theodore and Bertina (Brorby) Volby.  She graduated from Rutland High School in 1932 and graduated from SDSU at Brookings in 1936, majoring in Home Economics Education.  She taught at Gregory, SD and married Arthur Beto on September 27, 1942, at Lake Madison Lutheran Church, Rutland.  Ruby then taught at Volga, Dell Rapids, Colton, Chester, General Beadle High School and Flandreau Indian School.

Ruby was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA, Delta Kappa Gamma, Church Women United, Red Cross, Sons of Norway, Jane Austin Society and Entre Nous Study Club. She enjoyed traveling, including England, Norway, Mexico, Disneyland and Washington, DC.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty (Mickiel) Fedde of Eagan, MN four grandchildren, Melissa Fedde, Meghann Fedde, Brian Fedde, and Katy Beto; and one great grandson, Odin Mickiel Fedde. Rub was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1983; one son, Ronald in 1994; and one sister, Margaret Walker.

Funeral Services will be 11 AM Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial at Lake Madison Lutheran Cemetery, Rutland. The family will be present for visitation 3-5 PM Sunday at Ellsworth Funeral Home. Condolences at www.ellsworthfh.com.

Cliff Bastemeyer and Linda Cottingham

A Memorial Service for Cliff Bastemeyer and Linda Cottingham will begin at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in the Kahler Funeral Home Chapel.  Linda Cottingham, the daughter of Cliff and Evelyn Bastemeyer, passed away in January of 2012 in Minnesota. Clifton “Cliff” F. Bastemeyer, 89, of Dell Rapids passed away on Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Salem, SD.  Cliff was born on February 17, 1923 in Avon, SD, the son of John and Florence Bastemyer. He moved to Dell Rapids and played Football for Dell Rapids High School. He enlisted in the Navy and worked as a Naval Fireman in CA for four years. There he met Evelyn Hill in 1940. They married and five years later moved to Dell Rapids. Cliff worked for the railroad here in Dell Rapids and other towns in the area. While in Dells, Cliff managed the roller rink in the Dell Rapids Park. He started the saddle club for young people in the area.

He loved horses, gardening and his family. He was a member of the Dell Rapids American Legion. Cliff and Evelyn had two children, Stanley who passed away at the age of 7 weeks and Linda who passed away on January 16, 2012 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Linda and her dad were very close and will be greatly missed by, Evelyn.

Cliff is survived by his wife Evelyn of Dell Rapids; his son-in-law, Mike of Litchfield, MN, grandchildren, Michelle Berhorst of Virginia Beach, VA, Travis (and Jennifer) Kiral of Warrensburg, MO, John Kiral of Eldon, MO, Heather (and Dennis) Nelson of Iroquois, SD, Heidi Cottingham (and Fiancé Keith Stroud) of Huron, SD, 12 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren.

Linda R. Cottingham, age 54, of Litchfield, Minnesota died on Monday, Janaury16, 2012 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Linda Rae Cottingham, the daughter of Clifford and Evelyn (Hill) Bastemeyer, was born on October 16, 1957, in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She grew up in Geddes, SD and received her education there. She moved to Missouri and lived there for a few years before returning to South Dakota. She was living in Yankton when she met Mike Cottingham. They were married in Clear Lake, SD on July 30, 1988. They lived in various places in Minnesota before settling in Litchfield. Linda worked at various jobs before starting to work at HTI. Linda was a member of the Hog Group and enjoyed any Harley-Davidson outing. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and flowers. She especially enjoyed motor cycling. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and friends. She is survived by her husband Mike of Litchfield, children, Michelle Berhorst of Virginia Beach, VA, Travis (and Jennifer) Kiral of Warrensburg, MO, John Kiral of Eldon, MO, Heather (and Dennis) Nelson of Iroquois, SD, Heidi Cottingham (and Fiancé Keith Stroud) of Huron, SD, 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, parents Clifford and Evelyn Bastemeyer of Dell Rapids, SD, sister-in-law Connie (and Fran) Nuytten of St. Cloud and her favorite dog “Maggie”. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Brandon Kiral, infant brother and sister-in-law, Linda Cottingham.

Kathy Healy Bunkers

Sunday evening, October 7, Kathaleen Louise Healy went to heaven to be with God. Kathy enjoyed life as a best friend, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend until the very end. She was surrounded by family on the farm she loved.

Kathy’s Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:30 a.m on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Methodist Church in Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2011. The cancer progressed very quickly. She actively lived the last year and a half of her life and continued to support, love, and encourage others in her life, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Kathy was born April 2, 1947 to Robert and Bernadine Healy in Sioux Falls, SD. She spent her childhood in Dell Rapids, SD. She attended school and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1965. She worked for JC Penny. She was married and raised three children in Sioux Falls. She later established an in home daycare.

On July 4, 1989, Kathy married Bill Bunkers and moved to “the farm.” Kathy attended SDSU with her daughter, Shannon and both graduated in 1997.  She enjoyed living in the country, helping Bill run the farm, her flower garden and “mowing the lawn.” She just loved being in God’s great outdoors.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sibling, a nephew, Michael John Jr., and a granddaughter, Emily Nicole.  She is survived by her husband, Bill Bunkers of Dell Rapids; her children, James Steffensmeier II of Colton, SD, Shannon (Craig) Stubbe of Sioux Falls and Erin Steffensmeier of Sioux Falls; her step-son, Brad (Mary) Bunkers of Livingston, MT; her step-daughter, Debra (Doug) Trefz of Onaka, SD; her 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Ellen Ostherr of Camden, ME and Trisha (Ralph) Healy-Smith of Corona Del Mar, CA; her brothers, Bernie (Millie) Healy of Tigard, OR, Mike (Alison) Healy of Manchester, TN and Jim (Mary) Healy of Cape Cod, MA.

Fern Park

Fern Annabelle Sorensen was born to Nels and Mrytle Sorensen on July 16th, 1928 in Flandreau, South Dakota.  She attended Trent High School and was named Valedictorian of her class. She worked as a flower designer for Ruth Graham. She then worked for Michaels and JC Penny and Dr. Bollinger, where she was dental assistant.

On July 20th, 1946 Mom married Verdus Ace Park in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.  Mom and Dad lived in several area communities until settling in Dell Rapids where since 1952 they owned and operated Parks Meat Market and Locker along with Ace’s brothers Ken and Tim. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed going to movies, plays and her grandchildren.

Fern passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012 at her home. She was 84 preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Myrtle Sorenson, her husband, Verdus “Ace” Park, and her sisters, Lila Garscia and Joyce Kemp.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Angela Gibson and her husband Gary of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Lance Park and his  wife Ann of Brookings, South Dakota, Tony Park and his wife Patti of Bentonville, Arkansas, Penne Lane and her husband Steve of Omaha, Nebraska, and Babs Newman and her husband Glen of Austin, Minnesota; her 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; her two sisters, Viola Wangberg of Tucson, Arizona, Polly Uilk of Longmont, Colorado, and her brother Richard Sorenson of Corzet, Virgina.
