Kari M. Stroschein, 41, of Dell Rapids, SD, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids, SD. Visitation on Thursday, September 11, 2014 will be from noon-5:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home and will resume at 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church. Kari Marie Duhaime was born on August 12, 1973, the daughter of Jerry and Sandy (Pace) Duhaime at Sioux City, IA. She grew up on a farm near Elk Point, SD and attended school in Elk Point. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1991. After high school she attended SDSU in Brookings, SD where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communications in 1994. She then completed her Masters Degree in Speech Language and Pathology from USD in 1996. She married Chad Stroschein on April 20, 1996 at Elk Point, SD. The couple made their home in Atwood, KS, Green Bay, WI and Center Point, IA until settling in Dell Rapids, SD in 2003.

Kari worked as a Speech Language Pathologist for Select Hospital in Sioux Falls for the past several years.

Kari was very committed to her family, especially her children and all of their activities. You would see her many times at a rodeo cheerleading her children on. She was, is, and always will be their biggest fan. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids.

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Chad Stroschein of Dell Rapids; her children, daughter, Hannah, sons, Drew and Chace all at home; her parents, Jerry and Sandy Duhaime of Elk Point; her brothers, Brent (Melanie) Duhaime of Frisco, TX, Reid (KrisAnne) Duhaime of North Liberty, IA and Ryan (Lynne) Duhaime of Dakota Dunes; her in-laws, Gregg and Gayle Stroschein of Elk Point; her brothers-in-law, Jason (Candace) Stroschein of Altoona, WI and Corey Stroschein of Worthing; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and her many friends.

A Memorial Fund has been established at First National Bank for the children’s college funds.

Marie Visser

Marie Visser, 95, of Dell Rapids passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Carole. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at United Methodist Church in Dell Rapids. Marie was born February 8, 1919 to Henry and Julia (Delaney) Bertram at Bowman County, North Dakota. She lived the first year of her life in a sod house. The family moved to the Lyons/Colton area in 1920. She attended Grand Meadow country school and graduated from Lyons High School in 1938.

On March 17, 1945 Marie married Walt Visser in Mankato, Minnesota. They moved to a farm in rural Dell Rapids that they rented and later purchased. Since Marie was an only child, she was especially grateful for the warm welcome into the Visser family by all of Walt’s brothers and sisters.

Marie was well known for her expertise with plants and flowers. She ran a plant business from the farm for many years. She loved to raise ducks, guinea hens, exotic chickens and a large flock of turkeys. Marie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dell Rapids where she enjoyed helping with the many functions and activities there.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Carole Quiram, Sioux Falls; son, Marlin (Jeanine) Visser, Harrisburg; grandchildren, Ron Quiram, Sioux Falls, Jessica (Alan) Schneider, Otley, IA, Christopher Visser, Glenwood, IA and Lyndsey (Ryan) Hanson, Garretson.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Walt in 1986; parents; as well as many cousins and friends.

Thomas Wickert

Thomas R. Wickert, 80, of Baltic died Friday, September 5, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center.

Memorial services will begin at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Southeastern Church of Christ, Sioux Falls. Memorial visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. Thomas R. Wickert was born on September 8, 1933 to Leona and Harry Wickert in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended elementary and high school in Milwaukee. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served for two years. After his honorable discharge, he attended college to become a Master Machinist. After graduating from college, he worked for Allis Chalmers as a machinist until they closed. He then traveled the world setting up ink press machines for various companies.

In 2000, he moved to an acreage outside of Baltic, South Dakota where he resided until his death. On November 13, 2004 he married Carolyn Bailey at Southeastern Church of Christ in Sioux Falls surrounded by family and friends. They spent their years together traveling, raising animals, and enjoying time with family and friends. They loved and enjoyed every day that they had together. Tom enjoyed going to auctions, spending time with his best buddy “Jim” working on cars and farm equipment, spending time with his church “family”, hunting, fishing, and building and flying model airplanes with the Sod Busters model airplane group.

Tom fought a courageous battle against cancer and never complained. In the last hours of his life, he was surrounded by his wife, step-children, and step-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle soul, his love of life and animals, and his wonderful stories.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carolyn (Bailey) Wickert of Baltic. His children: Bryan (Melissa) Bailey, of Dell Rapids; Paul Bailey of Dell Rapids; Kathy (Randy) Reiners of Baltic; and Desiree (Kyle) Dammer of Dell Rapids. His grandchildren: Maggie Richter, Lance Richter, Jennifer Bailey, Kirsten Bailey, Kylee Bailey, Shelby Bailey, Michael Bailey, Jakob Bailey, Lizzie Bailey, Paislee Dammer, Anistyn Dammer, and one great grandchild, Madison Bailey. He is also survived by a son, John (Karen) Wickert and two grandchildren, Dustin and Miranda Wickert.

Logan Klebsch

Logan Charles Klebsch, 11, of Redfield died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, in Redfield.

His funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at the Ken Greeno Physical Education Building at Redfield Public Schools. The Rev. Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Logan’s family wants you to remember Logan as a happy, smiling young man, so there will only be closed-casket visitation.

Logan was born Nov. 24, 2002, in Aberdeen to Jim and Pam (Rye) Klebsch. Logan was raised on the family farm with his big brother Collin. Logan was a sixth grader at Redfield Public School and enjoyed his many friends at school and playing basketball and football. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family anytime they could get away. He enjoyed helping on the farm any way he could, including driving tractors and herding cattle.

Logan loved animals and raised pheasants, geese, chickens and anything else he could find. He was an avid basketball and football player and always asked his mother if he could just run one more play.

A star that burns twice as bright only burns half as long.

Logan is survived by his parents, Jim and Pam Klebsch; his brother, Collin of Redfield; his maternal grandparents: Wendell and Charla Rye of Claremont; his paternal grandparents: William and Zelda Klebsch; his maternal great-grandmother, Patricia Nietert of Aberdeen; he is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Michele (Steve) Cogley of Claremont, Gretchan (Justin) Cleveland of Groton, Heather (Chad) Ronshaugen of Dell Rapids, Jeff Klebsch of Frankfort and Karen (Rob) Stephenson of Redfield; and many cousins; great-uncles; and aunts and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, David Rye; and his maternal great-grandfather, Charles “Duke” Nietert.

Rosemary “Babe”Richardson

Rosemary “Babe” Richardson, age 84, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Chester, died Saturday, August 30, 2014.

Rosemary Nelson was born May 16, 1930, at Goodwin, SD, to Nels and Sylvia (Miller) Nelson. She grew up in the Franklin and Chester area. Babe graduated from Chester High School with the class of 1948. She was united in marriage to Kenneth “Red” Richardson on July 20, 1950, at the Chester United Methodist Church.

Babe worked on the farm until the late 1960’s when she went to work for New York Life in Madison and later KJAM radio until she retired. She was a member of the Chester United Methodist Church. Babe enjoyed gardening, baking (sharing with others) and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ken in 2011, and a sister, Ava Entringer.

Survivors include two sons, Dan (Cathy) Richardson of Dell Rapids and Dave Richardson of Ft. Pierre; one daughter, Lori Justice of Indianapolis, IN; two grandsons; six great grandchildren; three step-grandsons; one step-great granddaughter; and one sister, Betty Peterson of McAllen, TX. Dale Hewitt

Dale Hewitt, 78, of Brandon, SD, was called home Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice House. The family will be present to greet friends for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, August 26 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Hewitt, Brandon, SD; children, Rick (Becky) Hewitt, Harrisburg, SD, Terry (Beth) Hewitt, Sioux Falls, SD, Richard Hewitt, Brandon, SD, Robin (Bruce) Boersma, Sioux Falls, SD, and Lori (Brian)Hewitt-Bruns, Dell Rapids, SD; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judi Hewitt, Sioux Falls; and his loyal dog companion, Paco. Edith Perault

Edith Arlene Perault, 88, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Kadoka Nursing Home

Edith Arlene Bennett was born Oct. 30, 1925, to Fred M. and Ida L. (Schulz) Bennett. She attended grade school at Brady School in rural Jackson County, and graduated from Philip High School in 1943. She obtained a teaching certificate at Springfield College.

Edith taught school in rural Haakon County. She then moved to Kadoka and worked at the rationing office in Kadoka during WWII, where items such as tires, gasoline, sugar, flour and other items were rationed.

On March 29, 1946, Edith was married to George W. Headlee. They had two sons and two daughters. They resided south of Interior at Headlee Ranch. She worked alongside her husband in operation of the ranch. George passed away on March 14, 1966. Edith and the younger children moved to Kadoka in the fall of 1966, and Dennis returned to college.

While in Kadoka, Edith worked at Hogen’s Hardware and the Belvidere State Bank – Kadoka. She learned to bowl, and enjoyed bowling very much. During these years, Edith boarded students from surrounding rural areas that were attending high school in Kadoka.

On April 29, 1975, Edith was married to Charles O. Perault. They resided on the Perault Ranch south of Stamford on the White River. She again assisted in the operation of the ranch. Edith enjoyed bird watching and having coffee with family and friends. Charles passed away on March 15, 2007. Edith moved to the Gateway Apartments in Kadoka that spring, and was a resident of the Kadoka Care Center since the spring of 2013.

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Melody) Headlee, Pleasant Hill, IA, Vicki Wilson, Kadoka, William (Norma) Headlee, Belvidere, and Mary Knight, Sherwood, AR; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) Ford, Asheboro, NC, Jason (Val) Headlee, Sioux Falls, Robert (Hilary) Headlee, Ventura, CA, Reagan (Terry) Ison, Fort Worth, TX, Willard (Jennifer) Wilson, Eastover, SC, Anora (Brian) Henderson, Hamill, Corale (Dan) Dorn, Dell Rapids, Monica (John) Dorn, Hendricks, MN, William (Jennifer) Headlee, Ames, IA, and Donella Headlee, Sioux Falls; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her brothers, Magnus, Harvey, Orville, and Donald Bennett; and her sisters, Gladys Olson and Marjorie Hosek.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Presbyterian Church in Kadoka, with Pastor Gary McCubbin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be at the Kadoka Cemetery.

Darlene (Goodale) Lodmell

Darlene Lodmell, 79, of Dell Rapids passed away Tuesday morning, August 19, 2014 following a battle with numerous health issues. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, August 22, 2014 followed by a brief prayer service at 7:00pm at Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids. Darlene Mavis Mary Goodale was born July 31, 1935 in Dell Rapids. She received a teaching certificate and taught school several years. She married Ellsworth Lodmell on December 23, 1954, and they raised five children.

Darlene was involved in a number of church activities including choir director, Ladies Aid, the annual Christmas program and teaching Sunday school. In the 1970’s she owned a children’s and young misses store, Your Kid’n’Me. Darlene was an avid bowler for over 50 years and felt especially proud of membership in the 600 Series Club. She also enjoyed traveling, baking and chatting over coffee with friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother and sister. Grateful for having shared her life are her children: sons and their wives, Rick (Sue), Illinois and Torin (Marcia), Dell Rapids, daughters and their husbands, Lori (Charlie) Blake, Washington, Darci (Michael) Niva, California and Ginger (Jon) Rumzis, Arizona. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Moriah (Rahmi) Aiken, Ashley (Curtis) Coe, Whitney (Nick) Taylor, Emily (Liz) Mathews, Peter, Charity and Adam Niva, Zane, Ethan, Tori and Devin Lodmell and Brittany and Mercedes Lodmell.

Gregory “Greg” Matheny

Greg was born in Rapid City, South Dakota on July 17, 1965 to the late Michael and Laurietta (Fey) Matheny. He attended Central High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota and graduated in 1984. He joined the South Dakota Highway Patrol and graduated from the police academy in 1991. After graduating he was assigned to Presho, South Dakota as his first duty station.

On August 18, 1999 Greg was united in marriage to Ann M. Brown. They moved from Presho, South Dakota to Brookings, South Dakota where they started their family and had two children; Haley and Brenden. Greg had 22 years on with the South Dakota Highway Patrol when he retired in April of 2014.

Life after the Highway Patrol included the family moving down to Boca Raton, Florida. Greg was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing the guitar, and cooking. Greg passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at his home in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 49 and preceded in death by his father. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 14 years, Ann Matheny; his children, Brenden and Haley; his mom, Laurietta Matheny of Dell Rapids; his sisters, June Rasmussen of Sioux Falls and Angela (Patrick) Ellison of Dell Rapids; his nieces, nephew and extended family.

Greg always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. Greg you will be missed but not forgotten. Memorials may be directed to the Greg Matheny Memorial Fund.

Stanley Lundquist

Stanley H. Lundquist, Sioux Falls, formerly of Estelline, was born Nov. 19, 1935, in Kingsbury County.

He received his education in Erwin and graduated from Erwin High School in 1953. Stan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1956, he continued his education at SDSU and received his degree in 1958.

He was united in marriage to Rochelle J. Anderson on April 29, 1960, in Pipestone, Minn. He was employed as a conservation officer with the Game, Fish and Parks Department from 1960 until his retirement in 1998. Stan was very instrumental in establishing the Mickelson Wetland Memorial west of Estelline. Rochelle died on Feb. 23, 2004, and Stan continued to live in Estelline until moving to Dell Rapids and later moving to Sioux Falls. He died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Bethany Lutheran Home in Sioux Falls at the age of 78 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline, the Sportsman Club and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by one son, Jeff Lundquist (Rebecca) and their two daughters, Amber and Sienna of Lincoln, Neb.; one daughter, Lisa Schroeder (Jim) and their son, Zachary of Dell Rapids; five brothers, Raymond (Lisa) of Mooresville, N.C., Kenneth (Barbara) of Sioux Falls, Harlow (Annette) of Garretson, Larry of Billings, Mont., and Robert (Ann) of Gettysburg; and two sisters, Joyce Jensen (Virgil) of Erwin and Gladys Horsted (Burton) of Sioux Falls.

Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Rochelle, his parents, three brothers, Neal, Harold and Roy and one sister, Esther Daily,

His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Condolences may be left at www.geisefuneralhome.com
