Marvin was born April 11, 1919 to parents Thomas and Tilda (Sundal) Hanson in Sioux Falls. He grew up near Dell Rapids and attended the Hanson Country School, which he later bought and moved to his farm for a garage. He then joined the United States Army in 1945 and spent time in France. He was on his way to Japan when the atomic bombs were dropped and then spent time in the Philippines. After returning to the states he spent time as a Military Police Officer on passenger trains on the Atlantic coast. After returning home, he farmed and later worked at John Morrell
Marvin married Ruby Klanderud April 4, 1948 at Willow Creek Lutheran Church.
Marvin was an active member of the Willow Creek Lutheran Church, where he was custodian for many years and served on the cemetery board. He was on the board of directors of the Baltic Lumber and Elevator Board. He also was an active member of the Baltic American Legion. He enjoyed local conversations with relatives, neighbors and friends.
Marvin passed away December 25, 2012 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 93.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruby, Dell Rapids, sons, Mervin (Mary) Hanson, Sioux Falls; Perry Hanson, Bakersfield, CA; daughters, Kathy Rindels, Chamberlain; Linda Hanson, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, Candice Hanson, Courtney Hanson, Caitlyn Hanson, Nathan Hanson, Dustin Hanson, and Mitchell Hanson; two great grandchildren, Caleb and Cameron Hanson; a brother, Richard Hanson, Harrisburg; two sisters, Delores (Harold) Simkins and Esther (Charles) Nelson, both of Sioux Falls; sisters in law, Merrna Hanson And Shirley Hanson, both of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Tilda Hanson; a grandson, Seth; two brothers, Robert and Arnold; a sister, Gladys Mesch and a sister in law, Sally Hanson.
