Lois M. Skaar, 93, formerly of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer, SD. Her memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The interment service will be on Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church Chapel. Condolences may be left at www.kahlerfh.com
Lois M. Stangeland was born to Jonas and Carrie Stangeland on December 6, 1920 at Primghar, Iowa. She graduated from Gaza High School, Gaza, Iowa in 1939 and Waldorf College, Forest City, Iowa in 1941. She worked for the O’Brien County Abstract Company in Primghar, Iowa from 1941-1945. On May 27, 1945 she married E. S. Skaar at Paulina, Iowa. She was an active church member and Pastor’s wife in Cameron and Glenwood City, Wisconsin; Hudson, Dell Rapids, Sioux Falls, Britton, and Renner South Dakota. In 1987 she and E. S. retired in Sioux Falls. They moved to Prairie Creek Senior Living, Sioux Falls, SD in 2007. E. S. passed away in May of 2009. In June of 2013 she became a resident of the Custer Senior Care facility, Custer, SD.
She is survived by her brother, Elmer (June) Stangeland of Primghar, Iowa; her son, Jon (Jane) Skaar of Custer, SD; her daughter, Joy (Randy) Bisping of Spring Creek, Michigan; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
