Elaine Schroedermeier age 93 formerly of Chancellor, SD, passed away Tuesday May 2, 2017 in Sioux Falls. Family will greet friends from 5:00- 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm Wednesday at Miller South Funeral Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls. Funeral services begin at 2:00 pm Thursday at Chancellor Reformed Church, with burial at the Church Cemetery. On-line condolences may be left at the Miller Funeral Home website.
Elaine Ruth Vietor, daughter of Jakob and Genevieve (Lowery) Vietor, was born February 16, 1924 on the Vietor homestead in rural Turner County, SD. She was very proud of her Turner County heritage and enjoyed reminiscing about the old days and growing up there.
Elaine attended country school District #20, 3 miles south of Chancellor, SD. She graduated from Chancellor High School and received her teaching degree from Eastern Normal College in Madison, SD. She then taught in several Turner County Schools before and after her marriage. Her first teaching assignment was at Finley #5, located 1 ½ miles east of Parker, SD. She also taught for many years at the elementary school in Chancellor.
Elaine was united in marriage to Donald Schroedermeier on June 28, 1945 in Chancellor. In addition to teaching she was an ambitious farm wife. The couple settled on their farm and lived for many years 2 miles north of Davis, SD; until retiring and moving into Chancellor in 2000.
She was a faithful member of the Chancellor Reformed Church and was very active in women’s groups and was a Sunday School teacher.
Elaine resided in Chancellor until 2013 at which time she moved to Primrose Retirement Center for several years and most recently at Southridge Health Care.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Jane (Mark) Hansen, and Dan (Myra), all of Sioux Falls, Loren (Glenda), of Harrisburg, SD; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; her brother George (Audrey) Vietor, Chancellor; two sister’s in-law, Arda Hoffman, Yankton, SD, and Karen Vietor, Dell Rapids, SD; special friends, Ken and Jo Plucker; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jakob and Genevieve Vietor, her husband Donald, sister Mavis, brother Rodney and daughter in-law, Linda.
