Kahler Funeral Home Changes Ownership

Kahler Funeral Home would like to formally announce a change of ownership.  Ross and Tiffany Brende have officially assumed ownership and will be operating Kahler-Brende Funeral Home effective January 1st!  We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark and Jenifer Kahler for their years of dedication and remarkable service to the Dell Rapids community.  We must also recognize the Dell Rapids community and surrounding areas for all of your support throughout the years. We are very honored to continue serving this wonderful community and dedicated to providing exemplary after life care.  Please know Kahler-Brende Funeral Home is there for you and your family when in need and humbly grateful for this new opportunity.

Thomas Allen

Thomas AllenThomas A. Allen, 88, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 2, 2014 with the Christian Wake Service beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Kahler Funeral Home. To leave condolences please visit www.kahlerfh.com.

Thomas A. Allen was born on December 10, 1925 at Dell Rapids, SD, the son of Tom and Regina Allen. He grew up in the Dell Rapids area and attended country school. He worked on the family farm and entered the I.O.O.F. Home in 1993. He lived there until it closed, at which time he became a resident of the Dell Rapids Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by his brothers, Lawrence and Leonard of Dell Rapids and his sister, Anna Mae Miiller of Phoenix, AZ and his many nieces and nephews.

Mary “MJ” Betsworth

Mary “MJ” Betsworth, 66, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Lambert Church. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the start of the mass. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kahler Funeral Home, www.kahlerfh.com,

Mary Jane “MJ” Marquardt was born on July 23, 1946 in Sioux Falls, the daughter of Howard and Lucille Marquardt. She grew up in in Sioux Falls and attended school at O’Gorman, graduating in 1964. MJ was a member of the National Honor Society. She went to work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as a Secretary/Stenographer right out of high school. MJ married Dan Betsworth on July 18, 1969. She worked for Prudential Financial from 1966 to 1994, the Minnehaha Public Defenders Office from 1995 to 1997, and Raven Industries from 1997 to 2008, when she retired.

MJ served as a Citizen’s Patrol Officer in Sioux Falls and sang with Joyful Noise at St. Lambert Church. She enjoyed reading murder mysteries and working in her lawn and garden.

MJ is survived by her son, Christopher (Barb) Betsworth of Sioux Falls; her daughter, Jennifer Betsworth of Sioux Falls; her seven grandchildren, Matthew, Haley, Orion, Lauren, Jacob, Emily, and Samuel; her brother, Howard Marquardt of Sioux Falls; her sister, Suzanne (Joe) Feuling of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

MJ was preceded in death by her parents and a beloved aunt and uncle.
