Grace Jane (Smith) Reiter, 100, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, in Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the start of the service. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. She was born on August 18, 1916, in Sioux Falls to Edward and Florence (Lindenmuth) Smith. She married Bernard “Barney” Anthony Reiter on October 26, 1937, in Canton, South Dakota. The couple lived and worked for many years in Dell Rapids before moving to Sioux Falls in 1970.
When she was single, Grace worked in Sioux Falls at the Sunshine Cafe on Mable Avenue. After her marriage, Grace worked at the Dells Cafe, the Coop Creamery and at the Riverside Hatchery which her father owned and operated. Grace later went to work for Sioux Valley Milk Producers in Sioux Falls. After retiring she and her husband spent many years volunteering for the Bergland Center.
Grace was a lifetime member of the VFW and the DAV. For twenty-two years she played drums for the Happy Notes band that performed in and around Sioux Falls and Harlingen, Texas, where Grace and her husband spent their winters.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Venus “Bud” Smith. She is survived by her son, Ken and his wife, Kathy; her grandson, Aaron and his wife, Carly and great granddaughters, Reagan and Camryn of Sioux Falls and her grandson, Jared and his wife, Christina and great granddaughters, Brianna, Jordan Grace, and Hailey of Wesley Chapel, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law and her many nieces and nephews.
