Evelyn Fischer-Haugen, 83, of Sioux Falls, formerly Dell Rapids, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center.
Evelyn Mae Sinning was born on March 31, 1934, on a farm south of Lennox, SD, the daughter of Wilmer and Rena (Harms) Sinning. She grew up attending rural school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1952.
On May 12, 1954 she married Eugene Fischer at the Turner County First Presbyterian Church, rural Davis, SD. The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Worthing, SD. Two children were born to this union. Eugene died on August 22, 1986.
On September 14, 1996 she was united in marriage to Elmer Haugen at the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home near Dell Rapids, SD, before moving into Sioux Falls in 2006.
Evelyn had worked in the environmental services area at Sioux Valley Hospital (now Sanford USD Medical Center) for over 20 years until retiring in 1999. She was a member of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Evelyn was a “home body” who enjoyed word search puzzles and gospel music. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides her husband Eugene, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Elmer Haugen, Sioux Falls; two children: Beverly (John) Ness, Lennox and Kevin (Tammy) Fischer, Worthing; one granddaughter, Amanda (Mark) Fink, Sioux Falls and two step-grandchildren: Kayla Wright, Sioux Falls and Todd Wright, Colorado, as well as other relatives and friends.
