Trailing two sets to none and facing match point, the Dell Rapids Quarriers rallied for a thrilling five-set match win over the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, October 9th.  Dell Rapids won by set scores of 11-25, 26-28, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11.

Playing in their second match in as many nights, the Quarriers got off to a bit of a slow start as Deubrook was able to get out to a 14-9 lead in the first set, and then close out the set on an 11-2 run to win 25-11.  Dell Rapids appeared as if they were going to tie the match at 1-1 leading 22-17 in the second set, but Deubrook rallied to tie the set at 24-24, and then got the advantage and win at 28-26.

Dell Rapids was able to get themselves a 15-11 lead mid way through the third set, but Deubrook tied it at 18-18.  The Dolphins continued with the momentum for a 24-22 lead, forcing match point on Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers rallied for four straight points to steal the third set at 26-24 and keep the match alive.

Neither team was able to get more than a two-to-three point lead for much of the fourth set.  The two teams were tied 17-17 and 19-19 before Dell Rapids closed out the fourth set on a 6-1 run to force the fifth and final set.  Deubrook started to pull away in the fifth set as they lead 9-5 and then 11-7.  However, the Quarriers stormed back with eight straight points with Maria Jackson serving to win the match.

Dell Rapids (16-6) will take a four-match winning streak into the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Saturday, October 13th.  The tournament will be held at Dakota Valley High School.

 

On a night when the team celebrated five seniors, the Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Baltic Bulldogs 3-1 by set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20 on Monday, October 7th.

Baltic jumped out to an early lead in the first set and led by as many as seven points.  Dell Rapids had cut the lead to one point multiple times in the set, but Baltic was able to hold the Quarriers each time and took the first set of the match.  Dell Rapids got out to a nine point lead mid way through the second set.  The Bulldogs made a late run, but the Quarriers took the second set and gained momentum.  Dell Rapids was able to take that momentum and cruised to the final two set wins to win the match.

Hannah Fletcher had 27 set assists, eight kills, three ace serves, and a block in the match.  Jayda Knuppe finished with a team-high 11 kills.  Maria Jackson also had eight kills.  Brooke Klein tallied 40 digs and five ace serves.  Dezi Rus had 18 digs, while Mackenzie Grisham added 17 digs.

This year’s seniors are Maria Jackson, Hannah Fletcher, Jadya Knuppe, Brooke Klein, and Nina Bradonjic.

The Quarriers (15-6) will travel to White to play the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Tuesday, October 9th.

The Dell Rapids Quarriers volleyball team bounced back in a big way on Monday, October 1st.  Coming off back-to-back losses to McCook Cental/Montrose and Lennox last week, the Quarriers welcomed the Dakota Valley Panthers to Dell Rapids High School.  Dell Rapids defeated the Panthers by set scores of 25-23, 25-13, 24-26, 25-9.

Jayda Knuppe had a total of 16 kills on the night.  Maria Jackson finished with nine kills.  Kyra Graham had six kills, and Mackenzie Grisham and Dezi Rus both had five kills.  Hannah Fletcher notched 40 more set assists.  Brooke Klein led the team in digs with 21.  Grisham had 17 digs, and Sam Price added 12 digs.  Graham had two blocks.  Jackson and Fletcher both had a block.  Knuppe also tallied four ace serves, while Jackson had three.

Dell Rapids (13-6) will be back in action right away on Tuesday, October 2nd when they travel to Vermillion.

In a battle of top five teams in Class A volleyball, the #5 McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars defeated the #4 Dell Rapids Quarriers on Tuesday, September 25th at Dell Rapids High School.  The Fighting Cougars won in straight sets by scores 25-23, 25-21, 25-14.

The first set was a back-and-forth game with neither team really gaining much of an advantage.  Dell Rapids held a 22-21 lead late, but McCook Central/Montrose rallied to take a 24-22 lead.  After Dell Rapids pulled within a point at 24-23, the Fighting Cougars closed out the set for the victory.  Dell Rapids looked to be in control to take the second set after gaining an 18-13 advantage.  McCook Central/Montrose, however, rallied for a 12-3 run to steal the second set at 25-21.  The Fighting Cougars would ride the momentum to a 14-8 lead, but Dell Rapids responded with six straight points to tie the third set at 14-14.  But once again, McCook Central/Montrose went on a rally, this time for 11 straight points to win the match.

Maria Jackson led the team with six kills.  Mackenzie Grisham and Jayda Knuppe both had three kills each.  Jackson and Knuppe both had two service aces.  Hannah Fletcher notched 13 more set assists and 11 digs.  Brooke Klein ended the night with 26 digs, and Grisham had 22 digs.  Jackson had three blocks at the net, while Kyra Graham had two blocks.

Dell Rapids (12-5) will travel to Lennox for a Dak-12 Conference match-up on Thursday, September 27th.

The Dell Rapids Quarriers played a total of five matches on Saturday, September 22nd at the Sanford Pentagon Invitational volleyball tournament in Sioux Falls.  The Quarriers had pool play matches against Mt Vernon/Plankinton, Central Lyons, IA, and Warner, and then they had bracket matches against Aberdeen Roncalli and Rapid City Central.

The Quarriers’ day started with pool play.  Their first match was a 2-1 win over Mt Vernon/Plankinton by scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-23.  The Quarriers then played Central Lyons, IA and fell two sets to zero.  The final pool play match was against the #2 team in Class B, the Warner Monarchs.  Warner won by set scores of 25-10, 25-11.

With a 1-2 record in pool play, Dell Rapids was placed in the silver bracket for the evening matches.   The Quarriers won the opening match of bracket play over Aberdeen Roncalli by scores of 25-18, 25-17.  The win put Dell Rapids in the championship match of the silver bracket against the Rapid City Central Cobblers.  Dell Rapids won the first set 25-14, but the Cobblers won the next two sets 25-16, 25-21 to take the match.

During the tournament Hannah Fletcher reached the 1,000 career set assists milestone!

Dell Rapids (12-5) will host the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars in a big Class A volleyball match-up on Tuesday, September 25th.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

The #4 ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers have their second five-match winning streak of the season.  This comes after defeating the Flandreau Fliers in four sets on Thursday, September 20th at Dell Rapids High School by scores of 27-25, 19-25, 25-10, and 25-22.

Jayda Knuppe led the offensive attack with 12 kills on the night.  Mackenzie Grisham was right behind with 10 kills of her own.  Dezi Rus finished with five kills, and Hannah Fletcher had four kills.  Fletcher also finished the night with a match-high 29 set assists.  Brooke Klein anchored the Quarrier defense with 35 digs.  Fletcher added 12 digs.  Kenzie Garry led the up front defense of the Quarriers with two blocks.  Knuppe also had a block in the match.

Leaders for Flandreau included Marianna Pavlis with nine kills and five blocks, Jaycie Pulscher with 19 set assists and three aces, Kennedy Headrick with seven kills, and Melina Matthys with five kills and three blocks.

Dell Rapids (10-2) will play in the Sanford Pentagon Invitational Tournament on Saturday, September 22nd in Sioux Falls.  Dell Rapids will play Mt Vernon-Plankinton (9:00 a.m. – Court 8), Central Lyon (11:00 a.m. – Court 8), and Warner (2:00 p.m. – Court 8) in pool play before moving on to the bracket round later in the day.

Holding steady at the #4 spot of the latest South Dakota media poll this week, the Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Garretson Blue Dragons in straight sets on Tuesday, September 18th in Garretson.  The Quarriers won by scores of 25-17, 27-25, 25-14.

Leaders on the night for Dell Rapids included Brooke Klein who had 32 digs, 11 service points, and three aces.  Hannah Fletcher had 22 set assists, 13 digs, eight service points and six kills.  Jayda Knuppe finished with 10 kills, eight service points, six digs, and three aces.  Mackenzie Grisham tallied 19 digs, 11 service points, eight kills, and one ace.  Maria Jackson had five kills and two blocks, while Sam Price tallied 20 digs.

With the win Dell Rapids improves to 9-2 on the season.  The Quarriers will host the Flandreau Fliers on Thursday, September 20th in their next match.

The #4 ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers continue to roll as their won their third straight match and eighth overall on the season after a 3-1 win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, September 13th at Dell Rapids High School.  Tri-Valley won the first set by a score of 25-17, but Dell Rapids won the next three to take the match by scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-14.

Hannah Fletcher finished the night with 23 set assists, 11 digs, 10 service points, five kills, and three aces.  Brooke Klein had a solid defensive match with 18 digs and also added six service points.  Jayda Knuppe led the team with 11 kills.  Knuppe also had 12 digs, 12 service points, three aces, and a block.  Kyra Graham had five blocks and three kills, while Maria Jackson had five kills and three blocks.  Mackenze Grisham added 11 digs and eight service points.  Mallory Haak finished with 10 digs and two aces.  Dezi Rus had seven digs and four kills.

Dell Rapids (8-2) will travel to Garretson to take on the Blue Dragons on Tuesday, September 18th for their next match.

The Dell Rapids Quarriers, ranked #4 in the latest South Dakota Media polls, won their seventh match of the season with a straight set win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 11th, in Canton.  The Quarriers won by scores of 25-16, 25-8, 25-23.

Brooke Klein led the team in digs with 14 on the night.  Klein also had two service points.  Jayda Knuppe had eight kills and two service points.  Maria Jackson finished with four service points and three kills.  Kyra Graham had three blocks and the net along with a kill.  Hannah Fletcher tallied 15 set assists, 10 digs, and three kills.

Dell Rapids (7-2) will host Dak-12 foe the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, September 13th.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team got back in the win column on Thursday, September 6th against Tea Area.  The Quarriers defeated the Titans by set scores of 25-20, 25-14, 24-26, 25-12.  The win stopped a two-match losing streak for the Quarriers.

Jayda Knuppe was strong at the net with 19 kills and added 21 service points.    Mackenzie Grisham had eight kills and 19 digs.  Dezi Rus added seven kills and eight service points.  Kyra Graham and Maria Jackson both had four kills each.  Hannah Fletcher had 39 set assists, 19 digs, seven service points, and three kills on the night.  Brooke Klein had 28 digs, and Sam Price and Gabi Rus both added 14 digs each.

Dell Rapids (6-2) will now travel to Canton to play the C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 11th.
