On Tuesday, September 29th, the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team dropped their match to the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars in Salem by game scores of 27-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14.  Mikaela Stofferahn finished the match with seven kills, two blocks and two aces.  Trinity Gordon ended with eight kills and 13 digs.  Sydney Stofferahn had five kills, and Arial Hoffman added four kills.  Brook Klein finished with 12 digs and six ace serves.

“Even though we were on the losing end of the match, I saw some very good things.  Consistency in all the facets of volleyball is sometimes difficult to achieve.   I do like how we are developing as a team.   I know that the fruits of our labor will come later.  We just have to stay with the course,” said head coach Dale Solberg.

The Quarriers fall to 5-11 on the year.  Dell Rapids will host Lennox on Thursday, October 1st.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

The JV lost two sets to zero. Tiffanie Dorale, Kenzie Gullickson, Hannah Fletcher, and Emma Paul were credited for their play.   The C team won 2 sets to 1.  Babette Van Giersbergen, Regan Stone, Jayda Knuppe, and Ravyn Hoffman paved the way for the victory.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team played in the Pentagon Classic on Saturday, September 26th.  Dell Rapids dropped all four matches of the classic.

In the opening match, the Quarriers got out to a one game lead against Hitchcock-Tulare, and led 24-19 in the second match, however, the Patriots came back to win game two 24-26.  Hitchcock-Tulare then won the third game 13-25.

Bon Homme was too much for the Quarriers to handle as they defeated Dell Rapids two games to none.  Bridgewater-Emery and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland also posted match wins over Dell Rapids in the classic.

“We will accept defeat, but not failure.  We failed.  The competitive spirit was lacking and thus, our performance reflected that.  It was a disappointing effort that we just need to move on,” lamented Coach Solberg.

Dell Rapids will travel to Salem to play McCook Central/Montrose on Tuesday, September 29th.

The Dell Rapids Public C volleyball team traveled to Deubrook last Saturday and won the tournament.  With only six players, the team won all four of their matches!   They defeated DeSmet 25-21, 25-14; Hamlin 25-12, 23-25, 15-9; Deubrook: 25-21, 25-18; and in the championship, Sioux Valley: 25-15 and 25-23.  Hannah Fletcher (18 digs, 35 points, 9 aces, and 36 assists); Ravyn Hoffman (10 kills, 28 digs, 14 points, 9 aces); Regan Stone (11 kills, 40 digs, 19 points, 6 aces); Maria Jackson (6 kills, 26 digs, 29 points, 8 aces, 15 assists); Babette Van Giersbergen (6 kills, 12 digs, 16 points, 5 blocks); and Jayda Knuppe (14 kills, 42 digs, 17 points and 5 blocks).

“The girls came together played well in all of the facets of the game.  They had good communication, played hard and pumped each other up throughout the day.  I was very happy with their type of play,” stated Coach Grace Lickteig.

Trailing two games to none, the Flandreau Fliers won the next three games and stunned the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team on Thursday, September 24th, in Flandreau.  The Fliers won the match by scores of 22-25, 16-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-11.

Trinity Gordon led the Quarriers in the match with 13 kills, 11 service points, and 26 digs.  Mikaela Stofferahn had 11 kills and one block.  Chloe Solberg finished with 12 service points and 31 set assists.  Hannah Welbig ended the night with 24 digs, and Sydney Stofferahn had three blocks.

The loss drops the Quarriers to 5-6 on the year.  Dell Rapids will play in the SF Pentagon Classic on Saturday, September 26th.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball improved their record to 5-5 with a win over the Garretson Blue Dragons 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 on Tuesday, September 22nd, in Dell Rapids.

Mikaela Stofferahn led the offense with 11 points, 13 kills, and three blocks.  Emma Paul added 11 kills.  Chloe Solberg finished the night with 31 set assists.  Hannah Welbig anchored the defense with 21 digs on the night.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “We came out flat, but bounced back nicely because of a total team effort.  We are still developing our depth and taking a look at different lineups.  It is nice to see everyone contribute one way or another.”

The Quarriers travel to Flandreau on Thursday, September 24th, and then will play in the SF Pentagon Classic on Saturday, September 26th.

JV Results

In the JV match, the Quarriers posted a 25-9 and 25-19 win against the Blue Dragons.   Leaders on the night included Trinity Gordon (four kills, 10 digs, and five points), Brooke Klein (five digs and 10 points), and Arial Hoffman (six points and three kills).  Tiffanie Dorale finished with seven set assists.

After losing the first game, the Tri-Valley Mustangs went on to win the next three and beat the Dell Rapids Quarrires in volleyball action on Thursday, September 17th, at Tri-Valley.  Final scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-9, 25-19.

Mikaela and Sydney Stofferahn led the attacking for Dell Rapids with six and four kills respectively.  Chloe Solberg tallied 25 assists in the match.  Hannah Welbig led the defense with 19 digs.  Trinity Gordon and Brooke Klein each had nine digs.  S. Stofferahn added four blocks.  Mara Adams had 11 points from the service line.  Kia Schumacher had five points, including one ace.

The Quarriers fall to 4-5 on the year.  Dell Rapids will host Garretson on Tuesday, September 22nd.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won their fourth match of the season and improved their record to 4-4 on the year after a 25-20, 25-13, 25-21 win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 15th, in Dell Rapids.

Mikaela Stofferahn tallied 10 points in the match and eight kills.  Kia Schumacher added five points and nine digs.  Trinity Gordon picked up five points and eight digs.  Chloe Solberg had 19 set assists in the match along with five aces.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “I was pleased with everyone contributing one way or another.  I am seeing us making positive strides in all facets of the game at all levels.”

The Quarriers will travel to Tri-Valley to face the Mustangs on Thursday, September 17th.

JV Results

The JV team defeated the Canton C-Hawks 25-10, 25-10.  Arial Hoffman posted 13 points and five kills.  Gordon had seven points, seven digs, and five kills.  Sara Van Regenmorter added eight points and three kills.

C Team Results

The C Team remained undefeated by beating Canton 25-21, 25-4.  Maria Jackson led the Quarriers with 17 points, six digs, and one block.  Emma Paul had six points, three kills, and four digs.  Regan Stone and Jayda Knuppe added three kills each.  Lydia Symens finished with 13 digs, while Ravyn Hoffman had 11 digs.

The Tea Area Titans defeated the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-14 in Tea on Thursday, September 10th.

Hannah Welbig led the Quarrier defense with 23 digs on the night.  Mikaela Stofferahn and nine kills while Sydney Stofferahn had four kills.  Chloe Solberg ended the match with three aces and 12 set assists.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “I felt that we did many good things out there even though we came up on the short end.  We just missed some key opportunities in the first two sets and let the sets slip away from us.  We are inconsistent with our play as I am trying many different line-up combinations right now.   I like what I am seeing.  It is a long season, and we will be someone to reckon with at the season’s end.  We are treating the season as a marathon and not a sprint.”

The Quarriers fall to 3-4 on the year.  Dell Rapids will play host to Canton on Tuesday, September 15th.

 

JV Results

The JV team spiked the Titans by the score of 25-18 and 25-12.  Paving the way in the total team effort were Sara Van Regenmorter’s seven points; Tiffanie Dorale added five points, two kills and four set assists; Brooke Klein and Kenzie Gullickson anchored the defense with 11 and seven digs respectively. Hannah Fletcher chipped in five points and four set assists.

 

C Team Results

The ‘C’ team continued their winning ways by posting a 25-16 and 25-15 victory.   Serving leaders included Jayda Knuppe and Regan Stone with nine and seven points respectively.  Knuppe added six kills while Emma Paul blasted five kills.   Anchoring the defense were Ravyn Hoffman, Brooke Klein, Hannah Fletcher and Lydia Symens.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team picked up their third win of the season by beating the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, September 1st, by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, 25-23.

Mikaela Stofferahn finished the night with 12 kills at the night for Dell Rapids.  She also had one block and two ace serves.  Sydney Stofferahn added 10 kills and three blocks.  Trinity Gordan tallied five kills and two blocks.  Chloe Solberg finished with 20 set assists in the match.  Hannah Welbig tallied 12 digs defensively for Dell Rapids.  Kia Schumacher had six digs, and Mara Adams added four.

Dell Rapids improves to 3-3 on the year.  The Quarriers travel to Tea to take on the Tea Area Titans on Thursday, September 10th.

On Saturday, August 29th, the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team finished fourth in the Canton Tournament with a 2-2 record.

Dell Rapids opened pool play against the Redfield/Doland Pheasants.  The Pheasants defeated Dell Rapids by scores of 25-21, 27-25.  The Quarriers bounced back in the next two pool play matches.  They defeated Canton by scores of 25-13, 25-14, and then defeated Garretson by scores of 25-20, 25-13.  This put Dell Rapids into the 3rd place game against West Central.  Facing the Trojans for the second time in just a few days, West Central once again beat Dell Rapids, this time by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-21.

Hannah Welbig finished the tournament with 23 service points and 23 digs.  Mikaela Stofferahn had 16 kills, 18 service points, and five blocks.  Chloe Solberg tallied 23 service points and 46 set assists.  Trinity Gordon added 12 kills, eight service points, and 13 digs over the four matches.  Kiah Schumacher chipped in 28 service points, and Sydney Stofferahn had nine kills.

“These early season matches are good for the players and coaches as we evaluate our overall play.  We are doing a number of good things out on the floor.  However, our big weakness right now is our first pass to the net.  We have to get better with it.  This is the key to us playing well.  I feel we have some easy passing opportunities that aren’t getting to the spot where it needs to go.  It is early, and we will continue to work to get better.  We will get there,” said Head Coach Dale Solberg.

The Quarriers’ record now stands at 2-3 on the year.  Dell Rapids will travel to Elk Point-Jefferson on Tuesday, September 1st.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team opened up their 2015 season against the West Central Trojans on Thursday, August 27th, in Dell Rapids.  The Quarriers fell to the Trojans by scores of 12-25, 17-25, 17-25.  Mikaela Stofferahn led the team with nine kills and one block.  Chloe Solberg had 17 set assists in the match.  Mara Adams and Hannah Welbig led Dell Rapids from the service line with six and five points respectively.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “We had our moments.  It is early, and we will evolve into a team to reckon with.  West Central has a nice team, and they beat us.  We will keep working hard to get to where we need to be.

The JV won by the set scores of 25-21, 18-25, and 15-10.  Defensive standouts included Brooke Klein and Betsy Amundson.  Sara VanRegenmorter led a total team effort on the offensive side.  In the C match, the Quarriers posted a 25-22 and 27-25 match win.  Maria Jackson’s serving led the offense.   Emma Paul and Brooke Klein each had a nice defensive match.

Dell Rapids will play Saturday in the Canton Invitational Tournament.
