Quarrier Volleyball Wins 5th Match in a Row

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team continued their hot streak by winning their fifth match in a row on Thursday, September 15th.  Dell Rapids defeated Tri-Valley in straight sets by scores of 25-9, 25-15, 25-12 at Tri-Valley High School.  The Quarriers last loss came against West Lyon at the Canton Tournament on August 26th.

Head Coach Jessica Ahlers said, “The girls are really starting to come together as a team and trust each other on the floor, which is great to see. While it’s always wonderful wrapping up a week with two wins, we need to keep our focus on our upcoming games and continue to push forward and improve daily.”

The Dell Rapids offense had a balanced attack.  Maria Jackson led the team with six kills.  Jayda Knuppe and Sydney Stofferahn both had five kills each.  Trinity Gordon had three kills, and Mackenzie Grisham and Hannah Fletcher both had two kills in the match.  Knuppe and Stofferahn both recorded a block.  Brookek  Klein and Gordon both finished with 12 digs on the night.  Fletcher had eight digs, Grisham added seven digs, and Jackson had six digs.  Fletcher also finished the night with 16 set assists.

Dell Rapids (7-2) will look to keep the streak going in the next match against Garretson on Tuesday, September 19th, at home.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Volleyball Notches a Win over Canton

DRvsCanton_VB_9-12-17The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team notched another win on the 2017 season with a Dak-12 Conference win over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 12th, at Dell Rapids High School.  It was just the second home match for the Quarriers on the season.  Dell Rapids won by scores of 20-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-11.

Dell Rapids got out to an early 7-2 lead in the first set, but Canton went on a 13-1 run to take a 16-8 lead before holding on for the 25-20 first set win.  The Quarriers did not give up momentum in the next three sets as they took early leads in all of them.  In all three set wins, Dell Rapids was able to keep the pressure on Canton and pull away for the victory.

Head Coach Jessica Ahlers said, “After a slow start in the first game, the girls were able to gain momentum and turn it around for the win. As we head into our game against Tri-Valley on Thursday, our key to success will be on keeping our service errors to a minimum and tightening up our blocks.”

Hannah Fletcher finished the night with 18 service points and 34 set assists.  Brooke Klein added 14 service points, three aces, and 19 digs.  Maria Jackson had 1o kills in the match along with four aces and nine service points.  Trinity Gordon had 20 digs and 10 kills.  Sydney Stofferahn finished with eight kills and a block.

Dell Rapids (6-2) will travel to Tri-Valley to play the Mustangs on Thursday, September 14th.

Quarrier Volleyball Wins Fifth Match of Year

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won their fifth match of the season by beating the Tea Area Titans 3-1 on Thursday, September 7th, at Tea Area High School.  The Quarriers won by scores of 25-22, 14-25, 25-15, 25-16.

Trinity Gordon finished the match with seven kills, 19 digs, four aces, and 16 service points for Dell Rapids.  Brooke Klein had 24 digs and five service points.  Hannah Fletcher added three kills, seven digs, and 23 set assists.  Jayda Knuppe had seven kills and five digs.  Mackenzie Grisham finished the match with 10 digs and 11 service points.  Maria Jackson and Sydney Stofferahn both had five kills in the match, and Shelby Apland ended the night with 11 digs.

Head coach Jessica Ahlers commented, “We have been focusing on key areas in practice, which helped us out immensely in tonight’s game. While we still have room for improvements, I’m pleased with the team’s performance thus far. The girls are dedicated to making themselves better, and I look forward to seeing them progress through this season.”

Dell Rapids (5-2) will host Canton on Tuesday, September 12th, in their next match.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Volleyball Defeats Huskies

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team defeated the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, August 29th, in Elk Point.  The Quarriers won by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 24-26, 26-24.

Jayda Knuppe led the team with 10 kills in the match.  Trinity Gordon finished with nine kills, and Hannah Fletcher and Maria Jackson both had seven kills each.  Brooke Klein had 31 digs on the night.  Gordon finished with 26 digs, Fletcher added 16 digs, and Jackson had 13 digs.  Klein, Gordon, and Jackson all had three ace serves in the match.  Fletcher finished with a game-high 32 set assists.

The Quarriers (4-2) are on a break for the next week and will resume play in Tea against the Tea Area Titans on Thursday, September 7th.

Quarrier Volleyball Takes First in Canton

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won C-Hawk Invitational Tournament on Saturday, August 26th, in Canton.  Dell Rapids finished first in Pool B with a 2-1 record, and then the Quarriers went on to defeat Lennox in the championship match.

The Quarriers defeated West Sioux by scores of 25-23, 25-18.  Dell Rapids also defeated Garretson 25-23, 25-17.  The Quarriers fell to West Lyon by scores of 21-25, 13-25, but Dell Rapids won Pool B on tiebreakers with the Quarriers, West Lyon, and West Sioux all finishing with a 2-1 pool play record.  Dell Rapids then went on to defeat Lennox in straight sets in the championship match.

Dell Rapids (3-2) will travel to Elk Point-Jefferson to play the Huskies on Tuesday, August 29th.

Quarrier Volleyball Falls in Close Season Opener

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team lost a close match to open their season against the West Central Trojans on Thursday, August 24th, in Dell Rapids.  The Trojans beat the Quarriers by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23.

Brooke Klein led the team with 14 service points, including four aces, and 21 digs.  Jayda Knuppe had nine kills and a block.  Sydney Stofferahn added seven kills.  Mackenzie Grisham had 24 digs defensively for the Quarriers, and Hannah Fletcher had 26 set assists in the match.  The Trojans were led by Erin Kueter with nine kills, Kali Nelson and Ashlyn McDonald with seven kills each, and Alyssa Ideker with 12 digs.

Dell Rapids will be heading to Canton for the Canton Tournament on Saturday, August 26th.

2016 Fall Sports Awards

Several Dell Rapids and Dell Rapids St Mary athletes earned awards for the 2016 fall sports season.

For the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country team, Christina Vogel was an Academic All-State winner.  Ella Heinitz and Ch. Vogel were named team Co-Most Valuable Runners by Head Coach Pete Schmidt.  Catherine Vogel was named Most Improved for the girls team.  Connor Libis was named the boys Most Valuable Runner.  Jacob Vogel was named Most Improved.

Kennedi Mullaney won the Coach’s Award from Head Coach Cami Bacon for the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cheer team.  Paige Bunkers was named the Most Improved.

Mullaney also earned Offensive MVP for the Cardinal volleyball team, was an Academic All-State winner, and also earned All-Conference.  Haley Michel was the Defensive MVP, was an Academic All-State winner, and an All-Conference Honorable Mention.  Cassie Mullaney earned the Most Improved award, and Jackie Wolles also was an Academic All-State winner.

For the Cardinal football team, Garret Frost, Dalton Houska, and Zach Geraets were Dakota Valley Conference All-Conference winners.  Carson Park was an All-Conference Honorable Mention.  Geraets, Houska, Frost, Park, Jacob Eining, Sam Schwebach, Kathryn Klein (stats), Wolles (stats), and Lexi Klein (stats) all were Academic All-State winners.

Chloe Solberg, Kenzie Gullickson, and Sara VanRegenmorter earned Academic All-State awards for the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team.  The team as a whole earned a team Academic All-State award for their 3.72 overall GPA.  Solberg, Trinity Gordon, and Brooke Klein were Dak-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention selections.

Averi Pankonen, Micah Gleason, and James Lueders earned Academic All-State awards for the Quarrier cross country team.

Ross Wiebenga, Alex Nordstrom, Justin Dorn, Jacob Wolles, Mason Peter, and Grace Tischer (stats) also earned Academic All-State awards for the Quarrier football team.  Dawson Kerzman, Seth Andersen, Tanner Heim, Nate McKee, Hunter Hansen, Anthony Miller, and Matt Gillogly were all Dak-12 All-Conference selections.  Peter and Wiebenga were All-Conference Honorable Mentions.  Andersen, McKee, and Hansen were class 11-A All-State award winners.  Trevor Pulscher and Kerzman were 11A All-State Honorable Mentions.  Hansen was also named an Argus Leader Elite 45 player for 2016.  McKee was an Elite 45 Honorable Mention.

Quarrier Volleyball Season Ends at Region 3A Tourney

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team had their season come to an end in the second round of the Region 3A tournament on Thursday, November 3rd, at Sioux Falls Christian High School.

The Quarriers opened up the region tournament in Madison on Tuesday, November 1st, against the Flandreau Fliers.  Dell Rapids defeated Flandreau in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-20.  Chloe Solberg finished the night with 10 points along with 34 set assists.  Trinity Gordon had 20 kills and 14 digs in the match.  Brooke Klein added 18 digs and 10 points.  Sydney Stofferahn had eight kills, and Hannah Fletcher finished the night with 12 points.

Dell Rapids then lost to the Chargers of Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday in straight sets by scores of 22-25, 9-25, and 17-25.  The Quarriers led through much of the first set, but Sioux Falls Chrisitian rallied for the win and held the momentum the rest of the night.  Stofferahn had nine kills and two blocks for Dell Rapids.  Klein had three ace serves and 12 digs.  Solberg finished with 11 set assists.

The Quarriers finished the season with a record of 13-18 overall and 4-7 in the Dak-12 Conference.  Seniors for the 2016 season are Sara Van Regenmorter, Alyssa Shellum, Alexis Krantz, MacKenzie Gullickson, Justice Haggin, and Chloe Solberg.

Quarrier Volleyball Team Drops Match to Madison

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers dropped their match to the Madison Bulldogs in Madison on Tuesday, October 18th, in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.

Trinity Gordon led the team with seven kills on the night.  Jayda Knuppe finished with five kills.  Gordon also added two ace serves.  Brooke Klein had 21 digs for Dell Rapids, with Kenzi Gullickson adding nine.  Chloe Solberg had 15 set assists, and Sydney Stofferahn had a block.

Dell Rapids falls to 11-16 on the season.  The Quarriers will travel to Beresford on Monday, October 24th.

Quarriers Fall to #1 SF Christian

NewDRLogoOn senior night in Dell Rapids, the Dell Rapids Quarriers fell to the #1 team in Class A, the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers, in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-18 on Thursday, October 13th.  In all three of the games, the score was close mid-way through before the Chargers pulled away to win.

Emma Paul finished the night with six kills and six points.  Trinity Gordon added six kills and 10 digs.  Hannah Fletch notched 13 digs, and Brooke Klein finished the match with 12 digs.  Chloe Solberg had a team-high 21 set assists.

Dell Rapids falls to 10-12 overall on the season and 4-5 against Dak-12 Conference teams.  The Quarriers will play in the Dak-12 Conference Classic on Saturday, October 15th, in Canton.

JV Results:

he JV played well, but fell to SFC by the set scores of 23-25 and 17-25.  Maria Jackson (five digs, six points, five kills), Hannah Fletcher (three kills, 10 digs, 12 assists), and Regan Stone (five kills, 10 digs, three points) led a total team effort.

C Team Results:

The C team lost 2-1 by the set scores of 25-19, 22-25, and 9-15.  Katie Steineke (six kills), Mallory Haak (14 digs), Jessica Schoeberl (12 points, 13 digs) and Ava Schuring (11 digs, three kills, five points) paved the way for the Quarriers.
