Cora “Corky” M. Loken, 94, of Sioux Falls passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Her Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2016 in Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the start of the service in the church. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. On-line condolences may be left at the Kahler Funeral Home website.
Cora Mae Wigdahl was born on May 15, 1922, the daughter of George and Alma Wigdahl. She had two older brothers, Art and Melvin and two older sisters, Othelia and Esther. When Cora was a toddler, her mother passed away and her father remarried. Cora graduated from Watertown High School.
She married Robert “Bob” Loken on November 1, 1943. While Bob was overseas during WWII, Cora worked at Park Grant, placing tax stamps on packaged cigarettes. Once Bob returned home, they started a family and she became a homemaker. The couple was blessed with two children, John and Mary. Once the children started school she took a job as the school secretary, where she worked for Roosevelt School for 22 years.
Cora was a member of Grace Lutheran Church her entire life, and was very involved in church choir, Elizabeth Circle, and could be found in the kitchen assisting with many of the church’s needs. She enjoyed music, knitting, reading, cards and having coffee with her friends. She was a great baker and cook. She loved animals, particularly cats.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Scott) Gibson; her daughter-in-law, Sandie (John) Loken; her four grandchildren, Anthony (Kelli) Gibson, Maria (Jason) Clarke, Michael (Lisa) Gibson, and Abby (Stan) Ward, and her seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Hilda, her husband, her brothers, her sisters and her son.
