Arthur “Art” Rave

Arthur “Art” L. Rave, 99, of Dell Rapids passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Dells Area Health Center in Dell Rapids. His funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Reformed Church. Interment will be in the Logan Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the family present at 6:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Kahler Funeral Home.

Arthur “Art” Lewis Rave was born on March 2, 1914 on the family farm northeast of Dell Rapids. He moved to the Rave home place at age 2. He grew up and started farming with his dad. He married Ordia Uhden on June 7, 1942 on the Uhden family farm. The couple moved to an acreage in 1975 and then to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids in 2011. Art remained active in farming until the time of his death.

Art was a life long member of the Reformed Church, serving as a church Deacon and Elder. He served on the first hospital board in 1959 to build the hospital. He was instrumental in starting Minnehaha County Rural Water Company and served on the Board of the SD Rural Water Association. He was the chairman of the Reformed Church Building Committee.

Art is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant son, Timothy his son-in-law, John Narigon II, one brother and three sisters.

He is survived by his sons, David (Jean) Rave, Lloyd (Linda) Rave and John (LeeAnn) Rave all of Dell Rapids; his daughter, Magelle Narigon of Dell Rapids; his nine grandchildren, Tim Rave, Tracy Welbig, Shawnna Godwin, Heath Rave, John Narigon, Jessica Eckmann, Joslyn Nelson, Jesse Rave and Jasmine Buseman and his 16 great grandchildren and his sister, Dorothy Jurgens of Thorton, IA.
