Arnold Heinemann

Arnold “Arnie” A. Heinemann, 91, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. His Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids with Fr. John Lantsberger as the celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Dell Rapids. Casketbearers are Arnie’s grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Kahler Funeral Home with the family present at 5:00 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a family rosary to follow.

Arnie was born on September 15, 1928 on the family farm near Dell Rapids, the son of Raymond and Clara (Eulberg) Heinemann. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from from St. Mary Catholic School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, after his discharge he returned home to Dell Rapids. He married Nita Oien on November 5, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home in Dell Rapids and later moved to a farm west of Dell Rapids. When Arnie started farming with his father, the couple moved to the Heinemann farm. They remained there until moving into Dell Rapids shortly after retiring. Nita passed away on December 11, 2016.

Arnie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Dell Rapids American Legion Post. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking and playing cards.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his five children, Deb (Tony) Sorg of Trent, Connie (Jerry) Weniger of Sioux Falls, Steve (Karen) Heinemann of Baltic, Larry (Kay) Heinemann of Custer and Peg (Bob) Ellwein of Dell Rapids; his nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Delores Fiegen of Dell Rapids and Lois (Harry) Gasper of Dell Rapids.
