Nita J. Heinemann, 83, of Dell Rapids, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Her Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Kahler Funeral Home with the family present at 5:00 p.m. The Christian Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a family rosary to follow.  On-line condolences may be left at the Kahler Funeral Home website.

Nita was born on June 28, 1933 on a farm near Baltic, SD, the daughter of Oscar and Alice (Brobjorg) Oien. She grew up on a farm near Baltic and attended school in Baltic. After high school she waitressed at the Dells Cafe. She married Arnie Heinemann on November 5, 1953 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home in Dell Rapids and later moved to a farm west of Dell Rapids. When Arnie started farming with his father, the couple moved to the Heinemann farm. They remained there until moving into Dell Rapids shortly after retiring.

Nita was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed family time, fishing, camping and doing crossword puzzles. She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her stepbrother and her stepsister.

Nita is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arnie Heinemann of Dell Rapids; her five children, Deb (Tony) Sorg of Trent, Connie (Jerry) Weniger of Sioux Falls, Steve (Karen) Heinemann of Baltic, Larry (Kay) Heinemann of Custer and Peg (Bob) Ellwein of Dell Rapids; her nine grandchildren and soon to be 17 great grandchildren; her brother, Iver (Judy) Oien of Baltic and her sisters, Ardis Warwick of Sioux Falls and Janice (Richard) Wehde of Floresville, TX.
