Ardis Munk, 90, of Dell Rapids passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Her Memorial Service was at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019 in the Ignite Life Church, Dell Rapids (5th and State Ave). Inurnment was in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Ardis Lorraine Nyhus was born to Halvor and Anna Otava (Hammer) Nyhus on September 14, 1928 at Dell Rapids, SD. Her family lived in the Baltic area before moving to Dell Rapids. She attended school in both Baltic and Dell Rapids.  Ardis married John William “Jack” Munk on May 10, 1949 in Luverne, MN. They were married for 64 years and resided in Dell Rapids all that time. Jack passed away on March 3, 2013. They had four children, Roger, Jacqueline, David and Lisa. Ardis began working as a waitress at the Dells Cafe and later worked at Rickeman’s Variety, Grandma’s Cafe and The Huddle Cafe.

Ardis enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed many family reunions and family gatherings. She enjoyed going places with her family and friends, going to state fairs or to see relatives in distant places. She enjoyed make krub or lutefisk for her family and friends. She did craftwork and loved bowling, playing cards and going to bingo night at the American Legion. She lived life to the fullest.

She served many years as treasurer for the Legion Auxiliary and the Baptist Women’s Group (ABW). She was in charge of the kitchen group at the church for many years. Ardis loved to join Jack on the front porch of their home and visit with passing neighbors and friends.

She is survived by her sons, Roger (Linda) Munk of Dell Rapids and David (Lori) Munk of Sioux Falls; her daughter, Lisa (Cari Conine) Munk of Atlanta, GA; her nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sister, Joyce Geraets of Dell Rapids and her sister-in-law, Beryl Masters of Ambler, PA and her many friends and extended family.

Ardis is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack; daughter, Jackie; two grandsons, David and Donald Munk; great-granddaughter, Emeilia Patricia Munk; her sister Berniece Oien and her husband, Otto; her brother-in-law, George Geraets Sr; her sister-in-law and spouse, Mildred and Karl Knoche and her sister-in-law’s husband, Wright Masters.
