Agnes M. Gengler, 88, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Agnes was born March 22, 1925 to Nicholas and Mary (Bormann) Gengler at Dell Rapids, SD. She received her education at DeVaney Country School. Agnes lived with her parents and cared for them until they passed away. Then she worked at the Dells Area Hospital in housekeeping for twenty years, retiring December 31, 2001. Agnes became a resident at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community in Sioux Falls in February 2010. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Colman, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and was a leader for Jr. Catholic Daughters. Agnes enjoyed gardening, baking, needlework and spending time with her nieces and nephew and their families.
Agnes is survived by five nieces, one nephew, and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Raymond, sister-in-law Odelia and two nieces, Joyce Parlet and Jeanne Van Holland.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman, with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Dell Rapids. A change of visitation is now 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday at St. Peter Catholic Church, Colman with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
