Quarriers Win Final Regular Season Game

The Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Vermillion Tanagers 40-10 on Thursday, October 24th, in Vermillion in the final regular season football game of the 2013 season.  The Quarriers were in complete control from the start of the game.  After receiving the opening kickoff, Dell Rapids drove the ball 80 yards in two plays and scored a touchdown on a 5o-yard run by Brett Nichols.  Dell Rapids would score two more times in the first quarter on a 49-yard touchdown run by Riley Schmidt and a 39-yard touchdown run by Nichols.  Nichols picked up his third touchdown in the game on a 34-yard run with 7:05 to go in the second quarter to give Dell Rapids a 27-0 lead.  Tanner Solberg connected with Schmidt on a 22-yard touchdown pass with 5:21 to go in the half to give the Quarriers a 34-0 halftime lead.  Jacob Huewe scored the final touchdown for Dell Rapids with 4:31 left in the 3rd on a 13-yard run.  Vermillion picked up a three-yard touchdown by Tyler Madsen, and Ethan James hit a 30-yard field goal as time expired.

Dell Rapids gained 360 yards of total offense.  311 yards came on the ground attack, while 49 yards were picked up through the air.  Nichols had five carries for 124 yards and three touchdowns.  Schmidt had 10 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown.  Huewe rushed the ball four times for 41 yards and a touchdown.  Solberg finished the night 2-7 passing for 49 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.  Defensively for Dell Rapids, Brock Reinhiller had 6.0 tackles.  Schmidt finished with 4.0 tackles, and Matthew DeNoon and Jacob Habeger each had 3.5 tackles in the game.  Tanner Ljunggren had a fumble recovery in the game.

The Quarriers finish the regular season with a 6-2 record.  Dell Rapids will host Sisseton in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday, October 29th.
