For two days the competitors of the 2018 South Dakota Class A Boys State Golf Tournament had to endure cool, cloudy, and windy conditions at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids. The tournament ran from Monday, October 1st through Tuesday, October 2nd. Three players from the Dell Rapids boys golf team qualified and played in the tournament on their home course.
Karsen Welbig had a round of 91 on Monday and a round of 94 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 185, which put him in a tie for 38th place. Zach McKee had an opening round of 102 and a second-day round of 101 for a total of 203, which put him in a tie for 73rd. Brandon Kubly’s first round was a 108, and his second round was a 96 for a two-day total of 204 to finish in a tie for 76th place.
Brock Murphy of Tea Area finished with a two-day score of 152 to take the individual championship. Nate Nielsen of Sisseton was second with a 154, and Lucas Schaefbauer placed third with a total of 156. Tea Area won the team title, Sisseton was second, and Madison placed third.
