September 19, 2014 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

DRvsMilbank_FB_9-19-14The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team posted an impressive win over the Milbank Bulldogs 51-0 on Friday, September 19th, in Dell Rapids.  The Dell Rapids offense imposed their will on Milbank, and the defense shut down the Milbank offense completely in the game.

Dell Rapids scored early on a 65-yard punt return by Tanner Ljunggren to take a 6-0 lead.  Riley Schmidt followed that with a 2-yard touchdown run on Dell Rapids’ next drive to give the Quarriers a 13-0.  Keegan Hemenway put Dell Rapids ahead 16-0, still in the first quarter, after a 22-yard field goal.  Schmidt added another touchdown run in the first quarter, this time from 70 yards.  Dell Rapids led 23-0 after the first quarter.

The Quarrier offense continued to roll in the second quarter.  Ljunggren had a 43-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter to add to the Quarrier lead.  Schmidt also had a punt return for a touchdown of 63 yards.  Sam White scored the final two touchdowns for Dell Rapids in the second quarter.  The first run was for five yards, and the second touchdown run was 53 yards.  The game ended at halftime with Dell Rapids winning 51-0.

Dell Rapids finished with 359 yards of total offense, all on the ground, while holding Milbank to just 72 total yards.  Schmidt had five carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns.  White had three carries for 61 yards and two touchdowns, while Ljunggren had two carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.  Andrew Wiebenga led the team with four tackles and a sack for the Quarriers.  Henry LaCoursiere and Tanner Heim each had three tackles apiece.

The Quarriers improve to 2-1 on the year.  Dell Rapids will travel to North Sioux City to take on the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday, September 26th.
